Semi Detailed Lesson Plan

Teacher: Wesmincon P. Boiser

Date: March 20, 2023

Topic: Basic Concepts of Probability

Grade Level: Grade 10

Objective:

a. understand the basic concepts of probability and be able to use them to calculate the
probability of events.
b. differentiate between theoretical and empirical probability.
c. apply probability concepts to solve problems.

Materials:

 Deck of cards
 Dice
 Coin
 Whiteboard and markers
 Handouts with examples of probability problems

Introduction

Begin by asking students if they have ever wondered what the chances are of something
happening. For example, what are the chances of flipping a coin and getting heads? Ask for a
show of hands for who thinks it will be heads and who thinks it will be tails. Record the
results on the whiteboard.

Main Activity

1. Explain the concept of probability using examples. Use the deck of cards, dice, and
coin to demonstrate how probability works.
2. Discuss the difference between theoretical and empirical probability. Provide
examples of each and explain how to calculate the probability for each.
3. Introduce the concept of probability distribution and discuss its importance in
probability theory.
4. Provide handouts with probability problems for students to work on in pairs. Monitor
students as they work and provide guidance as needed.

Closure

As a class, review the handouts and ask students to share their answers. Discuss any areas of
confusion or difficulty. Ask students to reflect on what they have learned about probability
and how it can be useful in their everyday lives.

Assessment:

Assess student understanding through class participation, handouts, and a short quiz at the
end of the lesson. You could also have students create their own probability problems to
solve in class, which would allow you to assess their understanding of the concepts taught.
