The recently discovered sea creature that I chose was a new species of tree-spider crab named

Leptarma Biju. The species of crab was just discovered two years ago in September 2020 in the
mangroves of Kerala, India. The type of phylum that the Leptarma Biju is would be an
arthropod. They are distinguished by their long walking legs and short dactyl. By gender, the
male counterparts are known for the structure of their appendages and large eyes. With a
squarish carapace, the crab will range in colors from dark purple, violet, and yellow noted on its
dactyli. They are known for their tree climbing habits yet there have only yet been a total of
three found. Researchers think this is due to their high nocturnal activity and mangroves are
hard to navigate carefully at night time. The crab was named after the dean and head of the
department of aquatic biology and fisheries at the University of Kerala, Appukuttannair Biju
Kumar.
