investigation of different aspects of a topic.
ELAGSE5SL5: Include multimedia components (e.g., graphics, sound) and visual displays in
presentations when appropriate to enhance the development of main ideas or themes.

ISTE Technology Standard Addressed:  What would you like students to know and be

the desired objectives of their creation or other on their chosen topic (tattling, reporting
communication. aggression, bullying, cyberbullying, or violence )
in the form of a PSA video or podcast.
What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

Students will pick their topic to research from the list, then make a PSA video or podcast informing
people about tattling, reporting aggression, bullying, cyberbullying, or violence (physical and/or
sexual) and how to report these issues.

Selected Instructional Software Tool: Students have the option to use Adobe spark, Canva, or
Nearpod to create video or audio PSA.

Description of Software:
Adobe spark: software that allows students to create videos, graphics, and live narrations.
Canva: creative software that allows students to create many different things such as media images,
videos and gifs to posters, websites, booklets, multimedia presentations, and much more,

Multimedia: Audio or Video Lesson Idea

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☒ Creating

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
The activity I have planned will allow students to choose the tool (audio or video) they would like to
use to make their PSA about their chosen topic. I will introduce this activity by showing examples of
a video PSA and audio PSA. This way the students can see the different options available. I will talk
through the requirements and student goals before starting the project. The students will create a
checklist to ensure they meet all of the requirements of their project. Students will utilize technology
by gathering research and using that research to make an audio or video PSA. As the teacher I will
assist students with research and help students navigate how to make their PSA. To conclude the
lesson, once everyone has finished their project the students will share their PSA with the class.
During students’ presentations I will fill out a feedback form to give students after their
presentations. I will also provide students with feedback throughout the activity to make sure
students are on track before presentation.
Managing student learning:
The tools being used will shift the behavior of students to a more active role in their learning. They
get to choose how they show their understanding of the topic by creating a video or podcast
bringing awareness to their chosen topic. Students will need to have their research and script
checked by me before moving onto their final product. Students will also have the chance to
collaborate and assist other students with their PSA.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.

The tool I have selected for this lesson will enhance the students’ learning experience in the
classroom by giving the students a choice in the way they present their final product. By giving the
students choice in the way they want to present supports students learning needs because they get
to choose what works best for their learning style. The universal design of learning principle I have
used for this lesson would be to provide multiple means of action or expression. I did this by using
different multimedia platforms for students to express their research in the form of a PSA. Students

can do this by making a video or audio file to present their public service announcement.

Reflection:
I think my lesson will give students practice gathering research, then using their research to inform
others about their cause by using multimedia components. I think this activity will impact students
learning because they are given a more active role in their learning experience by being able to
choose the way they want to present their research. I look forward to seeing the students’ final
product. I think the students will like having creative freedom to make their PSA. I hope this freedom
keeps students engaged during the lesson and that each student can make meaningful experiences
to refer back to later on.
