6th 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies Syllabus

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to the 2022-2023 school year! I am planning and anticipating a year filled with learning and
excitement. Thank you for your support in your child’s education.

Subject:
Our academic focus will be on essential standards in the area of Social Studies. In Social Studies, students will explain
and compare the geographic, political, economic, religious, social justice and social structures of the early civilizations.

Grading System:
Students will be graded using the school grading system. Please refer to your child’s school agenda for the proper
grading scale.
Attendance 5%
Classwork 15%
Homework 10%
Quizzes 20%
Tests 25%
Projects 20%
Notebook 5%

Materials Needed
-1 Composition notebook

Textbook
Social Studies 6th and 7th Grade: “Discovering Our Past: A History of the World,” McGraw Hill.
Social Studies 8th Grade: “Discovering Our Past: A History of the United States,” McGraw Hill.

Classroom Rules/ Procedures:

- Students must be prepared for class.
- Students are responsible for completing all work assigned.
- Homework must be completed and returned the next day at the beginning of class for full credit.
- Students are responsible for writing their own homework in the agenda.
- It is the students’ responsibility to check with me an assignment they may have missed while absent. This must be
done before or after class, not during. If the student is absent a day an assignment was due, they are expected to turn
in the assignment upon their return.
- If a student is absent the day of a test it is their responsibility to make arrangements to make up the test.
- All late work will be subject to a deduction of up to 50%.

Again, I am looking forward to a productive school year full of outstanding accomplishments for your child. I believe in the
importance of teacher-parent communication for student’s success. Please feel free to send me a note through the agenda or
make an appointment.

Please review the syllabus with your parents/guardians, sign, and return this portion no later than Monday, August 29th.
