About New Way Social and Development Organization
(NSDO):
NSDO is a development, advocacy, and humanitarian organization established in 2011
and registered with the Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan. NSDO is
based in Kabul, with programming hubs across the north and northeastern provinces of
the country. NSDO strives to empower the vulnerable and marginalized communities
suffering from the impacts of war, natural calamities, poverty, and injustice. Additionally,
NSDO is also working on the idea of integrated development, which encompasses
socio-economic, cultural and good governance. Community Empowerment is the core
to NSDO’s strategy to engage with grass-root groups and communities to address the
root causes of poverty, inequalities and injustice.

 
Job Description:
Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the supervision and direction of the Value Chain Officers and Senior
Agriculture Trainers:

 Provision of agriculture production trainings to group agribusinesses in the dairy, saffron


and vegetable value chains to increase agricultural production, including training in land
preparation and planting, irrigation techniques, pruning techniques, Integrated Pest
Management and prevention and treatment of diseases, weeding and harvesting.
 Provision of agriculture processing trainings to group agribusinesses in the dairy, saffron
and vegetable value chains to improve post-harvest handling and storage, and product
quality and food safety to better meet market requirements.
 Provision of business and marketing trainings to group agribusinesses in the dairy, saffron
and vegetable value chains to improve the financial management of the businesses and
increase sales and profitability through sound business and financial management and
well targeted marketing and packaging to meet buyer requirements.
 Build the capacity of group agribusinesses through training, mentorship and coaching in
agribusiness management from production through to sale.
 Build backward and forward market linkages for the group agribusinesses to improve
access to inputs, assets, services, and markets.
 Facilitate technical expert’s consultancy services to respective targeted agribusiness
groups on the relevant value chain knowledge and skills required.
 Conduct needs assessments on group agribusinesses to inform programme design.
 Conduct quarterly market monitoring data capture and information dissemination to
group agribusinesses.
 Distribute assets and equipment to agribusiness groups, including establishment of
greenhouses, development of irrigation structures, and establishment of storage facilities.
 Supporting agribusiness groups to develop into federations to achieve economies of scale
and improve access to resources and markets.
 Facilitate exposure visits and trade missions to enhance market linkages.
 Perform any other tasks related to the overall programme outcomes as assigned by the
Value Chain Officers or Senior Agriculture Trainers.

Reporting and Communication:

 Support Value Chain Officers and MEAL unit in developing of success stories/ case studies
on successful businesses.

 
Job Requirements:
Qualification & Experience:

 Minimum Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, value chain development, or business and


marketing.
 At least 3 years’ experience in agriculture production or processing or value chain
development in dairy, saffron, fruit, or vegetables.
 At least 3 years’ experience in the delivery of agriculture training (including for example,
agricultural production, processing, irrigation, and/or integrated pest management and
disease prevention and treatment).
 Experience in agribusiness management and development, including financial
management, marketing and the development of market linkages.
 Experience in coaching agribusinesses is an advantage.
 Experience in conducting market monitoring is an advantage.
 Local knowledge of agriculture in center of Kunduz and Imam Sahib district is an
advantage.

Competencies & Skills:

 Excellent Dari speaking and writing ability. Ability to additionally speak and write Uzbek is
an advantage.
 Possess good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
 Ability to work in remote communities throughout Kunduz province.
 Ability to work with community members and spend at least 90% of time in the field as
committed.
