EXPO Build and Planning
1. Need to build drainage into the site plan & build to have a
runoff for the rain out of the indented setup area

2. Sump pump onsite to clear flooding after heavy


rain/Surface pump that drains shallow depths

3. Have tarps to cover items pre-build to insure if unexpected,
fast, or overnight rain that items are always covered

4. Lay a tarp or rubber flooring or plastic pallets for items


being drop so they do not sit on the dirt and the bottom
soaked if and when rain hits

5. Bags of sand and gravel

1. KIDS

 Remind PARENTS of the following (EDM/smp)


o BRING a raincoat

o BRING a towel

o BRING a change of clothes and shoes

o BRING an umbrella

 Have extra towels at finish line


 Have change room for kids at finish line
 Have Trash containers/ Bins available for kids to place
their wet clothes in

 Remind all Staff, Volunteers and Athletes (edm/smp) to:

o BRING an umbrella

o BRING a raincoat

o BRING a change of clothes

o BRING a towel

o BRING a change of shoes

 Ensure stations along course provide some amount of cover

3. FACILITIES

 Ensure medical and water re-filling stations are built to


withstand strong wind

 Ensure Marathon Village / Tent is waterproof (no leaks)


AND is reinforced for possible strong wind

 Ensure stations along course provide some amount of cover

 Ensure there is a change room for kids at finish line


for KIDSRUN

 ENSURE electrical equipment is taped down using


waterproof tape

 Slip proof mats

 Portable generators?

 Have Trash containers/ Bins available for runners to place


their wet clothes in after changing

When it starts raining // When you see
rain coming
ALL STAFF/VOLUNTEERS

1. ENSURE all rain gear is ready and accessible

2. ENSURE THAT there is enough rain gear for every


member at a station / area
IF you see its about to rain, put all gear on (don’t wait until
it starts raining! Be Prepared!)

3. IF there are members without protection, call supervisor or


marshal to get unprotected staff/volunteers protected

STAFF AT MARATHON VILLAGE

1. WHEN you see the rain coming begin to check and make
sure all electronic equipment is waterproofed AND that the
TENTS are reinforced so they do not blow away

2. Prepare the area to have an influx of people who will be


trying to take cover from the rain. This includes moving
displays and posters out of the way.

3. Have extra Trash containers/ Bins available for people to


dispose of wet items they need to discard

4. Keep all items that are used daily secured in the plastic
tubs and bins so that they are protected prior and during
rain & or a storm

1. WHEN you see the rain coming begin to check and make
sure all electronic equipment is waterproofed AND that the
TENTS are reinforced so they do not blow away

2. Prepare the area to have an influx of people who will be


trying to take cover from the rain. This includes moving
displays, beds and supplies out of the way (provided that if
they should not get wet, they remain dry)

3. Have extra Trash containers/ Bins available for people to


dispose of wet items they need to discard
