3eme notion:

The notion of place and different forms of power refers to the ability to influence people's
behaviours.

Members of a community must accept rules, regulations, laws in order to live together.
Thanks to these laws , we can create a social cohesion , but sometimes it leads to conflicts
and tensions between different communities where it could be difficult to apply the same
rules for everyone . Even if authority seems absolute, there is always a counter-power, to
limit government excesses and to resist against it.

Power is a source of political, social and personal integration at the same time, and it can
reveal tensions and conflicts inside a group. Power appears, through a group of complicated
relations which can be endured or accepted by this group. POWER also involves a counter
power (implique aussi un contre pouvoir) in order to find the best way to limit and to fight
against it .

This notion can be broached from that following angles (Cette notion peut être abordée
sous les angles suivants : some emblematic institutional places of power(a courtyard, a
castel, a parliament,a jail, a courthouse, a capital ) [lieux institutionnels emblématiques du
pouvoir (Cour, château, parlement, prison, tribunal, capitales, etc.)] ;
medias power :the press= « the fourth power »,the public opinion… [pouvoir des médias (la
presse, « quatrième pouvoir », l’opinion publique, etc.) ;

pouvoir ):the key political figures (personnage politique),celebrities ,civil disobedience (la
désobéissance civile) ,the taste of war and the pacifism(goût la guerre et le pacifisme) ;
power and conquests (pouvoir et conquêtes)the fight for equality and freedom for everyone
(luttes pour l’égalité et la liberté), conquests and backward movements (conquêtes et
reculs ); the question of parity (sexual equality = egalité homme femme, equal pay = parité
