History of Basketball
• First established in 1891
December by a Canadian,
James Naismith.

• A physical education
professor and instructor at
the International Young
Men's Christian Association
Training School(YMCA)
(today, Springfield College)
in Springfield,
Massachusetts, was trying
to keep his gym class active
on a rainy day.

• By 1897–1898,5 on 5 game
became standard.
Court of Basketball
• A regulation basketball court in international games is 28
meters long and 15 meters wide.
• The basket is a steel rim above from the ground 10 feet
(3.05 meters) high.

Ball Sense

Ball sense is the basic


and essential element
in playing basketball.
Following are some
basic ball sense drills,
they are controlling the
ball, behind the back
and between the legs.

Controlling the Ball


• Shuttle the ball between left
hand and right hand

• Try in chest level, over head


level and hip level

Controlling the Ball


• Try to catch the ball gently to
absorb the force

• Try 20 shuttles for each level

Behind the back


• Pass the ball from left hand to right hand in
front of your body
• Pass the ball from left hand to right hand at
the back of your body

Behind the back


• At about abdominal
level
• Try 5 times
• Try different
direction

Between the legs


• Bend your knees and stay low
• Hold the ball on your left hand in front of your body at your
knee level
• Pass to your right hand between the legs

Between the legs


• Use right hand to receive the ball at the back
• Pass it back to your left hand outside of your leg
• Try 5 times
• Try different legs
