1. A full bridge inverter is operated from a dc supply of 120Vand in unipolar PWM mode.
Determine
Fundamental output voltage at 𝑀 = 0.6
The first five harmonic order if 𝑀𝑓 = 12

2. For a three-phase bridge inverter operating in 120° conduction mode, determine:

a) The dc voltage for a fundamental line voltage of 415 V
b) The rms line and phase voltage
c) The device voltage rating.

3. A three-pulse cycloconverter is supplying a single-phase load of 480 V, 72 A at a

power factor of 0.85 lagging and a frequency of 25 Hz. Estimate the minimum supply
voltage required, the ratings of the thyristors and the power factor of the ac. supply.
Neglect losses and device voltage drops.

4. A three phase to single phase cycloconverter employs six pulse positive and
negative group converters. Each converter is supplied from delta/star transformer

𝑅 = 20Ω and at low output frequency, 𝜔 𝑜𝐿 = 5Ω. The commutation overlap and
thyristor turn-off time limit the firing in the inversion mode to 160°. Determine:
a) The value of the fundamental RMS output voltage,
b) The RMS output current,
c) The output power.

5. A three-phase, six-pulse 50 kVA, 415 V cycloconverter is operating at a firing angle

of 60° and supplying load having power factor of 0.8. Determine input current to
cycloconverter.

6. Explain the basic principle of operation of a cycloconverter with a neat equivalent

circuit diagram. Also draw and discuss the waveforms illustrating the operation of the
idealized cycloconverter circuit with loads of various displacement angles.

7. Consider a three-phase bridge inverter operating in 1200 conduction mode, if the

fundamental line voltage is 300V determine
a) The dc voltage
b) RMS line and phase voltage
c) Device voltage rating

8. A three-phase bridge inverter operated in 1800 conduction mode is fed from 1 KV

source. It is supplying an inductive star connected load of 𝑅 = 25Ω and 𝐿 = 10𝑚𝐻.
If the inverter frequency is 𝑓0 = 60 Hz Determine
a) RMS line voltage
b) RMS line voltage at fundamental frequency
c) RMS phase voltage
d) RMS phase voltage at fundamental frequency
e) Total harmonic distortion
f) Harmonic distortion
g) Load power
h) Average and RMS switching current

9. A single-phase full-bridge inverter has the resistive-load of 2.4 Ω and the d.c.
input voltage of 48 V. Determine
a) the RMS output voltage at the fundamental frequency, 𝐸1
b) the output power, 𝑃0 .
c) the average and peak currents of each thyristor, and
d) the peak reverse-blocking voltage of each thyristor.
