My Favorite Element: Copper (Cu)

Describe Copper

Copper is a reddish metal with a face-centered cubic

crystalline structure. A chemical element with the
symbol Cu (from Latin: cuprum) and atomic number
29. It is a soft, malleable, and ductile metal with very
high thermal and electrical conductivity.

Use and Application of Copper

Most copper is used in electrical equipment such as wiring and motors. This is

because it conducts both heat and electricity very well, and can be drawn into wires.
It also has uses in construction (for example roofing and plumbing), and industrial
machinery (such as heat exchangers). Copper is also used in power cables,
information systems, generators, motors, transformers, and renewable energy
production systems. When alloyed with other metals such as zinc, tin, or nickel,
copper's value and versatility only increases.

How the Copper was formed

They believe copper came to be after these stars

expanded to become supergiant stars. These supergiant
stars later exploded as supernovae, catapulting the
newly minted copper into space. Copper is a metal that
has been deposited from hot sulphur solutions, created
in volcanic regions. The hot solutions concentrated the
copper up to a thousand times more than would
normally be found in rocks. The resultant enriched rocks
are called copper ores.
