In what ways can Philippine literature be used to integrate the Philippine diaspora into the
national consciousness?

Philippine literature is one of the few ways we can inform people in a creative way that

can capture their attention. Philippine literature can tell stories and spread information. Using the

Philippine literature, people can be informed what is happening to the people experiencing the

Philippine diaspora, like the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), women and men who married

foreigners needing to go to their spouses in their countries, and students who study abroad.

The Philippine literature can be used to tell their stories, why do they need to go to other

countries, the sacrifices they have to make, who or what do they have to leave behind, and the

risks that have to take to arrive where they are now, like for the OFWs and students who study

abroad, they needed to go to create other opportunities for their families, or to create an

advantageous careers that can help them grow, these stories give hope and inspiration to others

that they can grow and create their own path outside of their safety bubble. For women and men

who married foreigners needing to go to their spouses in their countries, it becomes a sweet love

story that leaves people in awe how even with their differences love can create a path that will

join two people together. It can also tell their stories during their stay on the other countries. The

new culture they learned, what do they do to cope on being on other country, and the new

experiences that they experienced, both good and bad, and unfortunately the bad sometimes

outweighs the good, and with these, the government can know what’s happening to them and can

help them and take action.

 Philippine literature can spread information. It is sad to say but there are a lot of people

who wishes to become OFW or to study abroad due to lack of opportunities to create or further

their careers. With Philippine literature they can find reliable information about the processes

that they need to take, who they can contact or where they can go that is legitimate and can help

them, these will help them avoid dangers and being duped. People can also gain information

through Philippine literature about the places they want to go or can go. These can help know

what opportunities they can have in those countries, benefits that can help them adjust, and help

them live in another country. And can also gain information that can help them prepare their

journey in the place they might want to go and might help lessen a few culture shocks and avoid

accidents.

The people needed to be conscious what is happening to the people that experiences

Philippine diaspora for it is a start of paving way to create actions that can make sure that others

don’t see that it is necessary for them to the same as these people, like creating more

opportunities for employees or students, making sure it is safe for the other who have to go to

other countries due to other reasons, and also create a choice for people where they don’t have to

think of staying as a huge disadvantage for them so they don’t have to feel the Philippine

diaspora.
