The blast furnaces

Definitions:
Pig iron: Crude iron, it’s brittle.
Slag: Residue of the making of pig iron “escoria”
Limestone: Light stone that sticks to the slag so it separates slag from good product
Coke: Fuel
Hot air: air that is hot.
Minerals: The minerals to melt
Blast furnace: Metallurgic furnace used to melt very high quantities of minerals.

Blast furnaces can be found in these

locations because it’s near the water
and these zones are rich in the
materials needed

Are steelworks justifiable?

Steelworks such as blast furnaces leave a residue called slug which is useless, so it must
be “stored”. The problem comes when the slug is produced in large quantities and there
is no other place for it to be stored but in nature. There are things called slag heaps,
which are mountains of slug, and they are very contaminating.
But all of these are the residue of
making metal, which is one of the
most used materials worldwide, and
without it, life would be very
different.
In my opinion, the slag heaps are
justifiable as they mean that a lot of
metal is made.
