Dr. Nalini Chilkov, L.Ac., O.M.D

One hour before bedtime:

DFH Insomnitol Chewable 1 tab. (if you wake up in the night, a second tab may be taken)
DFH Buffered Magnesium Chelate (glycinate) 2 caps
Clinical Synergy Pure Honokiol 1-2 capsules

Nourish your body with nutrients that support relaxation and normal sleep cycle:

Insomnitol contains:
• Valerian root, passion flower, lemon balm, and chamomile which provide relaxation without impairing
memory, diminishing motor skills, or causing drowsiness upon awakening
• L-theanine, an amino acid that can help promote calmness and improve the quality of sleep
• Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), the main calming agent in the body. It assists with the ability to get
to sleep and stay asleep.
• Melatonin, a multifunctional hormone whose main role is to help regulate sleep by controlling our day
and night biological rhythms, known as the ‘circadian rhythm’ or our 24-hour biological clock
• 5-HTP supports further melatonin production during the night to help with staying asleep.* 5-HTP is a
precursor to serotonin — the body’s mood and sleep regulator.
• Vitamin B6, an essential nutrient for the conversion of 5-HTP and melatonin to serotonin

Magnesium is a nutrient that impacts the function of every cell in the body.
● Insomnia is a common symptom of magnesium deficiency.
● People with low magnesium may experience restless sleep and waking up more often during the
night.
● Magnesium supports healthy levels of GABA, a neurotransmitter that supports deep restful
sleep and calm
● Magnesium repletion improves sleep quality and improves insomnia linked to restless leg
syndrome.
● Small studies have found that magnesium supplements may help elderly people fall asleep
faster.
● Magnesium depletion is linked to increased stress and anxiety, increased muscle tension,
tension headaches and migraine headaches, all of which can disrupt normal sleep.
● Some pharmaceuticals, including chemotherapy drugs deplete magnesium.
● Vitamin D increases the absorption and utilization of magnesium.

Honokiol, a phytochemical from Chinese Magnolia Bark, has been used traditionally to soothe stress and
promote calm.
● Honokiol potentiates sleep by supporting the normal function of GABA, a naturally calming
neurotransmitter in the brain
● Honokiol activates sleep promoting neurons in the brain
● Honokiol enhances normal muscle relaxation
● Honokiol may be effective in normal control of inflammatory pain states allowing for more
restful sleep
Benefits of a Good Night’s Sleep:
