DND Hex Size Reddit 5e
Personally, I like using 6 miles hexes for two reasons. One, in an open plain, the
horizon is about 3 miles away, so from the center of a flat 6 mile hex you can see
the whole thing. Two, you can get more detailed with travel distance and time if
you like that kind of detail (which I do). So for an open road, you can travel 4
hexes (24 miles) in a normal day of travel. For open plains, 3 hexes a day. 2 hexes
a day for more rugged terrain like forests or hills. And just 1 hex a day for the
really tough stuff like mountains, swamps, and jungles.
Here is Matt Colville's video about The Local Area, where I got the 2 weeks of
travel size idea and where my thoughts on this started.
