If not listed, at the top right, type either the name, email address or phone number of the called party. If their name with an avatar is shown, they can receive video calls. If there is a green dot by the lower right side of the user’s avatar, the user is online.

● Click on the user’s avatar, in this case it’s a circle with a P on it.
Click Camera Icon
● In the Hangout window that opens, click the camera icon, for Video call. ○ Whether or not the user is online, you’ve started a video conference. ○ You will see your own picture full frame until a called party joins the conversation. ○ The called party will receive an invitation.
● When the user sees the invitation on his desktop, he can accept or decline the call. ● When you're done with your video call, to leave, point to the bottom of the window and click the Red Phone icon. Hangouts Calls

A Chrome browser user with the Hangouts extension installed and Chrome running would get a popup. If you invited someone by email, they’d receive a web link.

To start a Text Chat
● From the Launcher find and click the Hangouts icon . ● Click on New Conversation (+) ● At the top right, type the name, email address or phone number of the recipient and click Search ● Type your message, and press the return key on your keyboard.
To make a free phone call
● Open Hangouts ● Type the phone number or name in the search box. ● Click the phone number or person's name that you want to call. If you are calling a phone number that has an extension, enter the extension using the Dialpad. ● At the top of the Hangouts conversation window, click Call. ● To end a call, close the Hangout window, or click End call.
