1 INTRODUCTION
This statement is to describe the activities and method which will be used to carry
out repair work especially for cold joint case for the Construction and Completion of
Proposed Sungai Besi – Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE).

1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this method statement is to outline the method and procedure to
carry out rectification work for cases of cold joint.

1.2 Scope
To carry out rectification works on defect at structure.

5 RECTIFICATION WORK PROCEDURE

5.1 Method Application


i. Clean the surface and remove any dust, unsound or contaminated
material, oil, paint, grease, corrosion deposits or algae.
ii. Expose fully any corroded steel in the repair area and remove all loose
scale and corrosion deposits.
iii. Clean the steel bar if corroded.
iv. Concrete surface shall be in dry condition.
v. Saw cut along the cold joint line to a depth of 10mm to form a “V”
groove.
vi. All saw cut groove shall be hack and remove then cleaned the hacked
area.
vii. By using Sika set, patch the groove with 5mm diameter PVC hose
along the hacked groove.
viii. Before the quick set cement sets, remove the PVC hose to create a
passage for epoxy injection.
ix. Provide entry ports along the patched groove and starting at one end of
the cold joint line, inject Sika epoxy using and electro-mechanical gun.
x. Continue injecting at the lowest entry port until the epoxy appears from
the adjacent port.
xi. When the epoxy appears from the 2nd entry port, plug up the 1st port.
xii. Then, proceed to inject the epoxy from the 2 nd entry port.
xiii. Repeat the above until the whole cold joint line is filled.
xiv. Temporary seal shall be removed after 24 to 36 hours.
xv. Allow to cure by using Antisol A for minimum of 3 days
xvi. The above steps shall be repeated for all cold joint line.

5.2 Curing work


 Application of curing compound will be applied immediately while the
steel form is removed and the top surface (opening surface) will be
applied curing compound after wash out the retarder.
 Care and protection should be taken that the concrete surface is not
trafficked or disturbed until the membrane dries completely within 7
days and the concrete attain its traffic able strength.

APPENDIX A Safety and Health Requirements

A.1 Job Safety & Health Analysis

Job Safety & Health Analysis shall be carried on the project site. Traffic
management shall be approved and implemented at work areas. Barriers
and safety awareness signs shall be established at location of works such
as sheet piling work. The hazards in a particular activity and the control
measures implemented shall be briefed to the workers during safety
induction, tool box talk and JSA briefing.

A.2 Information to Personnel

 All workers employed in the project site must have CIDB green
card.
 All new workers and staff to attend the Safety Training or Safety
Induction Course Before commencing works site and attendances
shall be recorded in an induction list.
 All site personnel shall wear proper Personnel Protective
Equipment (PPE):
 Safety helmets, Safety vest, Safety boots, Water Boot, etc.
 Activities may require additional PPE on top of the above such as
Safety Harness may be necessary.
 All workers to attend the weekly toolbox meetings conducted by
the safety officer held at site and attendances shall be recorded.
 Signboards must be provided to warn workers and public of
dangers associated with construction works.

A.3 Emergency Arrangements


 The actual potential emergency situation may arises during the
sheet piling works are:
 Fire
 Gas or Electric Hazard,
 Explosion,
 Accident due to Equipment Failure
 Escape of Combustible or Toxic Material
 Major traffic accident when mobilization & demobilization of
equipment/machineries
 Soil collapse during digging works
 An Emergency Response and Communication Team shall be
formed at the site.

 The organization chart, list of emergency contact person and


relevant authorities with their contact numbers shall be showed in
the Notice Board.
 In the event of emergency, the site management staffs must
evaluate the situation and commence the necessary procedures
as follow:
 Raise the alarm.
 Stop works.
 Remain composed.
 Make sure notifications of emergency or evacuation are in
place for all workers surrounding the vicinity.
 Make sure all workers are assembled at designated
assembly point.
 Make sure first aid kits are prepared at assembly point.
 All workers are told not to leave the assembly point until
clear sign is issued.
 Headcount shall be conducted.
 First aiders shall attend to the injured workers.
 Prepare assessment reports for the losses.

APPENDIX B Environmental Issues

B.1 Environmental Aspects, Impacts & Control Measures


1.1 Environmental Aspects, Impacts & Control Measures
The significant environmental impacts associated with the repair works
have been identified of the related method of statements.

1.2 Air Quality and Noise


All construction machineries shall be in well maintain and in good
working condition to reduce emission of soot, smoke and noise. The
following measures shall be implemented if the above mentioned (soot,
smoke and noise) is deteriorating:
 Increase maintenance frequency
 Replace to better equipment if necessary
 Switched-off equipment if not in used
 Supply workers on-site with proper PPE (i.e. ear plugs and
mask)
 Temporary noise barrier will be installed to control the noise and
vibration if necessary

1.3 Waste Management


Scheduled waste from maintenance works of machineries, vehicles
and tools will be placed in designated areas. Proper oil tray or drum
shall be placed to prevent the oil spillage all over the place.
Subsequent waste shall be collected and transfer to area as assigned.
The schedule waste storage area shall be placed in designated area
with proper bund. Construction waste will be sent to designated areas.
Schedule waste will be disposed at approved schedule waste
dumpsite.

1.4 Temporary Drainage System


Drainage design should be adequate to ensure that no flooding occurs.
Where necessary, the actual drainage layout will be reviewed

depending on the site terrain and condition. All runoff from undisturbed
areas should not be allowed to mix with runoff from the disturbed area.

1.5 Housekeeping
Housekeeping is an essential part of safety for the daily routine.
Housekeeping would include the following items:
 Maintain access/egress to all working area.
 Store and stack all construction materials in safe and orderly
manner.
 No littering around the site.
