Why We Need To Celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti

 Ambedkar Jayanthi or Bhim Jayanti is observed on 14 April to


commemorate the memory of B.R.Ambedkar Indian politician and social
reformer .

 It marks Ambedkar's birthday who was born on 14th April  1891.


 Dr.B.R.Ambedkar is called as a leader of the
dalits (or) untouchables.

 Since he was the chairman of the constitution drafting


committee, he was called the father of our Nation.
Early life of B.R. Ambedkar

Born on April 14,1891, to parent Ramji Maloji


sakpal and Bhimabai Murbadkar Sakpal in a
military cantonment in Mhow of Madhya
pradesh.
Ambedkar came from humble beginnings but
he went on to become one of India greater
leaders.
FIRST EDUCATION

 In 1897, Ambedkar's family moved to
Mumbai where  Ambedkar became the
only untouchable enrolled at Elphinstone High School.
The Mahad Satyagraha in 1927
 The Mahad satyagraha of 1927 was one of the defining
moments in Ambedkar’s political thought and action.

  Held in the small town of Mahad in Maharashtra,


this satyagraha was held three years prior to Gandhi’s
Dandi march. 
Chairman of the Constitution
Drafting Committee

  Upon India's independence on 15 August 1947, the


new Congress led government invited Ambedkar to
serve as the nation's first Law Minister, which he
accepted.
Ambedkar fought for several important right to women

 Ambedkar resigned from his post of the first law minister of India when the comprehensive Hindu
Code Bill was dropped by the Indian parliament.
Political Career

 In 1952, Baba Saheb contested in the Indian General


Election but lost to the congress candidates.

 Ambedkar became a member of Rajya Sabha and


again tried to enter in Lok Sabha in the year 1954, but
was placed 3rd by Congress.
Drafting of  Upon India's independence on 15 August 1947, the
new prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru invited
Indian Ambedkar to serve as the Dominion of India's Law
Constitution Minister.
Conversion to Buddhism

In 1955, Ambedkar founded the Buddhist Society of India.

• In 1956, Ambedkar completed his book “The Buddha and His


Dhamma”. 

• Ambedkar completed his conversion to Buddhism along with his


wife & later, his supporters followed his path.

 In 1908, Ambedkar passed his tenth class


from the Elphinstone High School.

 He graduated from Bombay University in


1912 and his subjects included political
studies and economics.

 Ambedkar played a key role in the formation


of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 1935.

  Back in 1955, he was the first person to


propose the partition of Madhya Pradesh and
Bihar for better government.

 B.R. Ambedkar was a leading social


reformer and an activist who dedicated his
entire life to the betterment of the Dalits and
other socially backward classes of India.
