This document covers the analysis and design of Staging of 12m Height for 100KL Zinc Alume ESR
All design work will be based on Indian Standards (IS) codes (Latest revisions), with amendments,if any, as on date.
Apart from these codes, specific design guidelines laid in the contract documents are followed.
The design is carried out in conformity with following IS codes latest editions.
IS : 875-1987 - Code of practice for Design Loads for Building and Structures.
(Part- 1 & 2 )
IS : 875-2015 - Code of practice for Wind Loads for Building and Structures.
(Part- 3)
IS 13920:2016 - Ductile detailing of reinforced concrete structures subjected to seismic force - code of practice.
IS 11682 : 1985 - Criteria for Design of RCC Staging for Overhead Water tanks.

1.3 Units of measurements
All units in the analysis and designs are SI system unless noted otherwise.
100KL Zinc Alume ESR with 12m staging height will be a Zinc Alume Circular water tank, supported on R.C.C.
column/beam staging ( Height of 12m) resting on Raft Foundation. The internal diameter of the tank 5.85m and
is supported on ring beam, which is supported on coulmn resting on raft. Height of tank 4.03 m which consists
of a liquid depth of 3.73m and free board of 0.3m. Dead storage of 0.1 m. Bottom slabs spanning between ring
beam column arrangments.
STAAD PRO software is used for analysis and in-house Excel sheets are used for design.

2.0 SITE CONDITIONS
The safe bearing capacity of foundation is taken as 8 T/Sq. m founded at minimum depth of 2.5m below Natural
ground level.

3.0 STRUCTURAL MATERIALS
3.1 Cement
Ordinary Portland Cement of 43 grade or portland pozzolana cement/ portland slag cement of 53 grade conforming to
latest IS codes and minimum cement content for RCC M25 & M20 grade will be 300 kg/m3.
The plain cement concrete grade under all RCC foundation or raft will be of grade M15 of 100 mm thick and 100 mm
projection.
Reinforcemet bars will be High Yield strength deform bars Fe 500 TMT confirming to IS:1786-2008.
The following unit weight of material shall be considred for compatutaion of loads. Loads given in IS: 875 (part-1)
shall be made use of material listed below:

4.0 STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS
4.1 Modelling
Bottom of columns are considered fixed at foundation level. Foundations are modelled and designed separately
using nodal loads and moments obtained from STAAD model at bottom of columns. Staging is modelled with
beam element.
The structure is analysis using STAAD-PRO. Foundation are designed using in-house developed spread sheets.
All Members of Container are designed as per Design provided by BEN & GAWS Pvt. Ltd. However, staging
and base slab of container are designed by limit state method, tie beams, plinth beams and foundation is designed
as per IS:456-2000.
a) Dead load
Self weight of slab
Roof Finish/ Water treatment = 1.50 kN/m2
b) Live load
On cover slab and Gallary = 2.00 kN/m2
On staircase = 2.00 kN/m2
c) Wind load
Various parameters for calculation of wind loads on structures are determined on basis of IS: 875- 2015 (part-III),
following parameters has been considered for wind calculation
Basic Wind Speed = 47.00 m/s
Risk Cofficient (k1) = 1.07
Terrain category for (k2) factor = Category 1
Page 5
d) Seismic load
The seismic analysis of the ESR will be carried out as per IS: 1893 (part II) -2014. The design horizontal seismic
cofficient Ah for the structure will be determined using following parameters
Seismic Zone = IV
Zone factor = 0.24
Damping = 0.05

5.0 STRUCTURAL DESIGN
Design is based on the worst possible combination of various loads, moments, and shear resultant stresses in the tank
in following cases.
Tank Full
Tank Empty
Uplift pressure if any
5.2 Foundation
Foundation for the structures is decided based on loading arrangement, load intensity and soil strata. Design of
foundation dependent upon the safe bearing capacity at that level and on the basis of recommendation furnished in
the Geotechnical Investigation report.
Design forces and moments are obtained from STAAD-Pro analysis and checked for bearing capacity, overturning
and sliding. Bearing Capacity is increased by 25% for the all load combinatin with wind/seismic. The foundations
are designed as per limit state method as per IS: 456 -2000.

6.0 LOAD CALCULATION
For Column,
F (column) = ( Up to 10m Height ) = 0.90 kN/m
F (column) = ( 10m to 15m Height ) = 0.93 kN/m
F (column) = ( 15m to 20m Height ) = 0.98 kN/m
as per Seismic Load Calculation provided by BEN & GAWS Pvt. Ltd.

c) Brace Beam
Width of Brace Beam = 0.300 m
Depth of Brace Beam = 0.600 m
d) Column
Dia of Column = 0.450 m
