At the front, before the structure fell into ruin, the high portal, with two tall and curved pillars on both sides, which is still standing to this day, hid the double vaults of the building, ‘This ean is surrounded with repeated kific inserip- tions of La ilatailla Ailak (There is no god but God). There are also two minarets behind the terrace (Pugachenkova, 55-56; Golombek and Wilber, 1/295-296, also plate 2/131; for the alterations made to the;building and for its social role, see the articles by McChesney). The outer dome, which is less than 60 metres high and twice the height of the jnnet dome, is supported by squinches and Tower walls. It has strigil ornaments and is covered with tiles, and examples of this sort of dome can be seen in other Timiirid works. The spandrel tiles, the twisted col- ‘umhs next to the arch, and other parts are covered with arabesque and geometric designs. In addition to these, the building is also decorated with Qur'anic and other inscriptions, ‘The tiles are mostly glazed in shades of white, black and blue (Khalil, 46-48; Pugachenkova, 54-55). ‘The building is octagonal, and terraces can be scen from each of its main sides, these being connected inside to the blind arcades that surround the central space of the building, Similarly, on each of the four subsidiary facades of the building there were ornamented double-storey blind arcades with terminals: The domed building, which is a place of worship and of pilgrimage, includes a tiled prayer niche decorated with a dado of hexagonal tiles. ‘The interior surface consists of tiles and plaster, with the plasterwork painted in red and black (Khalil, 4445; Byron, 1136— 1137; Golombek and Wilber, 1/296). The windows below the dome permit light to enter the interior and reveal the colour- ful ornamentation. There is also a tomb located in this area, which is thought to belong to the founder of the building (Khalt, 44~ 45; Pugachenkova, 54-55; Golombek and Wilber, 1/295-296). ‘The shrine of Aba Nasr has undergone occasional repairs over the years with sec- tions added to it and then falling into disre- pai. The method by which the foundations were laid is one of the contributing factors to the degradation of the structure. Major repairs were carried out to the shrine in the middle of the 20th century (Golombek and Wilber, 1/295-296; Khahl, 47-48; Pugachenkova, 54-55).
