SERVICE INSTRUCTION NO. 212-1 Section II

SECTION II

OPERATING PROCEDURES

1. OPERATION. The operation of the copilot's instrument installation is identical to the operation of the pilot's
instrument installation. Refer to model 212
212 Flight Manual for detailed operating procedures.
Flight Manual

NOTE
THE INSTRUMENT INSTALLATION - COPILOT'S AUXILIARY
EQUIPMENT KIT IS APPROVED FOR VFR DAY AND NIGHT

f?.
FLIGHT ONLY.

21/22
SERVICE INSTRUCTION NO. 212-1 Section III

SECTION III
MAI NTENANCE

1. GENERAL.

a. This section gives general procedures for maintenance of the copilot's instruments.

b. The copilot's instrument kit, 212-706-104-1, provides a complete pitot and static pressure system independent
.ti

of the pilot's instrument system. Very little maintenance is required after installation. When lines are properly installed,
any water that enters or condenses in the nylon lines of either system will drain through the pitot tube of the pitot
system or the static ports of the static system.

2. REMOVAL OF INSTRUMENTS. Remove any instrument from panel, by the following general procedure:

a. Ensure all electrical power is OFF.

b. Disconnect electrical leads or instrument tubing from back of panel.

C. Protect ends of electrical leads, and cap open tubing and openings on instrument.

NOTE

Some indicators are installed in the panel by a clamp. In order to

._O

remove this clamp it will be necessary to hold the clamp from the aft
side while removing the screw from the front of the panel.

d. Remove mounting screws or loosen mounting clamp screw. Remove instrument.

3. CLEANING OF INSTRUMENTS. Clean panel and instrument cover glasses with a suitable soft, lint-free cloth.

4. INSPECTION OF INSTRUMENTS.

a. Inspect for loose, missing or improperly installed hardware. Inspect lens for cleanliness, looseness, cracked glass
a°.

and slippage.

b. Inspect for legibility of range markings.

C. Inspect for faulty decals.

5. ANNUAL INSPECTION OF PITOT STATIC SYSTEM.

a. Inspect pitot static system with conventional testing equipment when available.
.r..
C1,

b. When conventional pitot static system testing equipment is not available, test each system as follows:

(1) Inspect pitot lines for leakage by slipping a piece of rubber or plastic hose, 3/4 inch in diameter over the
pitot tube. Secure hose in place with tape. (See figure 3-1
3-1.)

(2) Roll hose slowly and tightly to force air into the pitot tube. When the airspeed indicator, 212-070-122-1,
reads approximately 100 knots, tape the rolled hose in place as shown in figure
figure 3-1.
3-1

(3) Observe the airspeed indicator for five minutes. The airspeed should not drop more than five knots during
+'O

this five minute period.

(4) After inspection, remove hose from pitot tube.

23
Section III SERVICE INSTRUCTION NO. 212-1

(5) Inspect static lines for leakage by blocking off the left static vent, 204-070-127-1, with plastic electrical
tape. (See figures 1-3
1-3 and 1-5
1-5.)

(6) Disconnect tube, 212-070-142-1, from right side static vent, 204-070-127-1. Slip a piece of rubber or

Nam
G7.

plastic hose over disconnected tube, 212-070-142-1 and secure in place with tape.

(7) Disconnect tube, 212-706-104-25, from the altimeter indicator, 1301-2001. Disconnect tube assembly,
212-070-223-1, from the rate of climb indicator, RC30VIL. Cap tube, 212-706-104-25, and tube assembly 212-070-223-1.

(fi
(8) Disconnect tubes, 212-706-104-15 and 212-706-104-27, from airspeed indicator, 212-070-122-1. Connect
tube, 212-706-104-27, to the pitot side of the airspeed indicator.
+0+

(9) Roll the hose, installed on tube, 212-070-142-1, slowly and tightly to force air into the static system.
When the airspeed indicator, 212-070-122-1, reads approximately 100 knots tape the hose in place.

(10) Observe airspeed indicator for five minutes. The airspeed should not drop more than five knots during

.o°
this five minute period.

(11) After inspection, remove hose and reconnect tubes in proper place.

C. Inspect pitot tube heater for operation.

CAUTION

Use extreme care when checking pitot tube heater. Severe burns can

(AD
be caused by touching pitot tube when heater is in operation.

6. REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF INSTRUMENTS. Replace any missing or damaged limits or index markings on
ICJ

cover glasses of instruments. Also replace any required decals which are not clearly legible. Replace any instrument if
cover glass is loose or broken, or when found to be unserviceable.

INSPECTION OF COPILOT'S INSTRUMENTS DURING FLIGHT.

l77

7.

a. The copilot's airspeed indicator, 212-070-122-1, should read within four knots of the pilot's airspeed indicator
at an airspeed of 100 knots indicated.
CD'G

b. The copilot's altimeter, 1301-2001, should agree with the pilots altimeter within 100 feet while flying below
8,000 feet.

NOTE
Adjustment of the copilot's altimeter should be made by qualified
instrument personnel only.

C. The copilot's rate of climb indicator, RC30VIL, should agree with the pilot's rate of climb indicator within
100 feet below 2500 feet when climbing or descending.

The copilot's attitude indicator, 212-070-714-1, should match the pilot's attitude indicator.
^c1

d.

e. The copilot's turn and slip indicator, RCA85-1, should match the pilot's turn and slip indicator.

f. The copilot's course indicator, 212-070-180-1, is a repeater indicator and should agree with the pilot's RMI
r-.

within 1 degree.

g. The copilot's tachometer, 212-070-108-5, should agree with the pilot's tachometer within 1.2%.

h. The copilot's dual torque indicator, 212-070-160-5, should agree with the pilot's dual torque indicator as
follows:

24
SERVICE INSTRUCTION NO. 212-1 Section III

(1) The copilot's engine pointer should be within 1/3% of the corresponding pointer on the pilot's
instrument.

(2) The copilot's transmission pointer should be within 1 1/3% of the corresponding pointer on the pilot's
instrument.
