To Whom It May Concern:

It is my pleasure to recommend Emma Kieselhorst for the 2021 DCI Scholarship.

I have known Emma since November of 2015 when she joined the Beavercreek Indoor
Percussion Ensemble as an 8th grader. Throughout her high school career, I had the delight
of instructing Emma in the Indoor Percussion, Marching Band, and Private Lesson settings.

Emma was a marching band section leader and the center marimba player during her
junior and senior years of high school. I relied heavily on Emma as a student leader in my
ensembles year-round. She often stepped up to mentor younger players, and was a student
teacher for our Middle School Drumline.

In constant evaluation of herself, Emma is always striving to find ways to improve. She
participated in District Solo & Ensemble all 4 years of high school, and stepped out of her
comfort zone to march snare for her final season of high school indoor percussion.

Emma shows excellence not only in music, but also in her academics. She is currently a
Music Education major at the University of North Texas, where she studies under Mark
Ford. Emma maintains a 4.0 GPA, is a member of the Honors College, and is set to graduate
early in 2023. Emma is also teaching percussion at Braswell High School under Alan Miller.

During the challenging times of 2020, Emma took advantage of multiple opportunities. She
was a member of the 2020 Virtual Drum & Bugle Corps, was the 2020 WGI eSolo Winner
for the Midwest Region, and finished in the top 5 for the DCI Solo Competition.

Emma continues to pursue her passion for the marching arts. As a high school junior, Emma
played marimba with Legends in 2019, in which the percussion section won “Best
Percussion” at the DCI Open Class Championships. She just completed her first indoor
season with Monarch Independent, and is currently marching with the Bluecoats.

I have no doubts that Emma will continue to add to her long list of accomplishments. Emma
is passionate, hard working, friendly, and ambitious. She was a joy to work with at
Beavercreek and I continue to feel extremely proud of her ongoing success.

Please contact me if you are in need of further details.

Sincerely,

Maureen (Mo) Longo
