The history of Guitarras Manuel Rodriguez guitars is as rich as the wood they are crafted from.

Manuel Rodriguez, the grandson of flamenco guitarist Manuel Rodriguez Marequi and son of
classical luthier Manuel Rodriguez Perez learned the art of constructing a guitar first hand.

His apprenticeship began at the age of 13 in Madrid, and after operating in his own workshops
in Spain, Manuel emigrated from Spain to the USA in 1959 and for nearly 15 years, lived in
Los Angeles, working from a shop just off of Sunset Boulevard,
painstakingly constructing custom built guitars of truly peerless
quality for professionals, Hollywood actors, teachers, and
students before moving back to Madrid in 1973.

Using only the finest woods, and hand-forming each to precise

tolerances, Manuel Rodriguez Snr. developed distinctive guitars
fit for the world’s preeminent artists, with the ultimate being his
personally built instruments.

Each unique “Senior” model is as individual as the musician

who plays it.

As a homage, and mark of lasting respect to the Maestro who

passed away in 2009. Guitarras Manuel Rodriguez still produces,

for those with time and patience, a very limited number of guitars
each year to the outstanding “Senior” specification, each taking
many months, and hundreds of highly skilled man hours to create.

Embodying the skills passed on by the Maestro to his sons and the
most experienced artisans at Guitarras Manuel Rodríguez, each
“Senior” is a work of art to be treasured for generations, with the
construction now overseen by Manuel Rodriguez Jnr.

Built from legally harvested, fully certified timbers, aged

and seasoned for more than a quarter of a century the
Manuel Rodriguez “Senior” model is the epitome of
the classical guitar builders art, featuring intricate
and delicate hand produced marquetry inlay work
in the binding and rosette, a selected premium
close grain Canadian red cedar top, an outstandingly
beautiful book matched solid Brazilian Rosewood
back and matching sides, Honduras Cedar neck
with bony reinforcements, ebony fingerboard,
gold plated tuners and gloss finish.

The Manuel Rodriguez “Senior” is a rare, valuable,
and exceedingly beautiful instrument.

With the mantle of producing the world’s
finest classical guitars now handed on to
his two sons, Manuel Jr. and Norman,
they continue the tradition of crafting
beautiful instruments deserving of the
family name.
Like the Manuel Rodriguez “Senior”
model, all Rodriguez guitars are almost
entirely handmade, in a totally moisture
controlled environment, with repetitive
tasks requiring consistent precision
produced on modern woodworking
machines, and the traditional methods
of hand forming and gluing used to
ensure each guitar achieves the perfection
of a master built guitar, with no detail
too minor to merit attention.
Precise tonal balance comes from our
production techniques, and generations
of experience amongst our luthiers who
work to ensure the finished instrument’s
purity of tone.
The tone, resonance and beauty of
fine guitars are all dependent upon the
woods from which they are made.
The timbers used in the construction
of Rodriguez guitars are painstakingly
chosen by grain, weight and density,
from logs which have been cut for at
least two years, collected and carefully
aged for between five and ten years
then impeccably matched in to sets
to guarantee the highest quality.
Rodriguez guitars are famous for their
comfort, and playability, using selected
light and stiff Sapele or Honduras Cedar
for the necks, ebony reinforced on certain
models, ensures rigidity and long term
stability. Indian Rosewood, or Ebony
fingerboards, accurately fretted with
German nickel silver frets, with their
beauty enhanced by handsome, intricately
engraved European tuning machines
provides superb playing experience.
The use of naturally dried tonewoods,
such as Mahogany, Cypress and Indian
Rosewood, all renowned for their
hardness, stiffness, resonance and
beautiful coloration are aged for 10 years
or more then selected and often book
matched for the bodies, to impart the
exquisite sound of the classical guitar
and create a durable object of beauty,
featuring Brazilian Rosewood on the
premium models.
For the living, beating heart of the guitar,
the top, carefully selected solid spruce,
solid cedar, or our unique “Café Crème”
blend of the two, is used to ensure a
powerful and balanced tonality.
Transforming the most important
functional part of the guitar in to an
object of beauty with the use of exquisite,
intricate hand made multicoloured
soundhole rosettes, Rodriguez guitars
look as beautiful as they sound.
Bridges, often overlooked are made of
Brazilian and Indian Rosewood, to
ensure the sound of the string and
dynamics of the player’s style is fully
transmitted to the body, the amplifier
of the guitar.
For those who want to enhance the
richness of a handcrafted guitar with
the power of electronics, Cutaway electric
models feature a state-of-the-art onboard
electronic pickup and preamp systems for
excellent response, balance and tonal
adjustability.
Each Rodriguez is hand-formed and
glued using traditional methods in a
totally moisture controlled environment.
