B. RATIONALE Earth is the only place where a human being is

born and lives. It is the only planet that can provide
resources to support life in all kinds of living organisms.
However, as time made humans become highly
intellectual among all living things, revolutions occur on
Earth. From the stoned era to the high-tech era, people’s
way of living became more comfortable and convenient.
Defining life without technology is hard for people who
already experienced a comfy lifestyle. Hence, people keep
on promoting and using it even though they are already
aware of some of the negative effects the technology can
bring to the environment, on Mother Earth. According to
the UN News (2022), the greenhouse gases that must be
worried about were identified as carbon dioxide, methane,
and nitrous oxide. These are the gases used to power up
technology, such as transportation, electricity generation,
and agricultural production. The increase in greenhouse
gases increases the Earth’s temperature and causes
climate change.
Climate change makes the environment chaotic. This
chaos started when technology rises, and probably
technology can be part of the solution to this problem. So,
people should modify its applications by minimizing and
properly using it since it cannot be eradicated from the
system. If people will not care to start climate action,
climate change could destroy the only planet that
sustains life, the Earth.
In view of the aforementioned, the Secondary Schools
in Bula District will have a simultaneous activity to
celebrate National Earth’s Day through the project USAD
(Unity for Sustainable Action and Development) starting
April 22, 2023, as the declared National Earth’s Day in
the Philippines under Presidential proclamation Nos. 1481
and 1482 (disseminated under DepEd Memo No. 218 s.
2008) until April 29, 2023. With a theme, “Solidarity
with Science for environmental sustainability and
development”. This highlights the importance of unity,
and Science and technology as a tool to help address
environmental challenges and promote sustainable
development. The abbreviation USAD has two meanings,
Usad from the mother tongue means “one”, as in “one for
all or all for one” which stands for unity on one purpose,
to mitigate environmental problems. The second one is

usad from the Filipino language, meaning moving
forward, this stands for moving forward in mitigating
environmental problems.
This project will adopt the project SIGID (Synergy,
integration for a greener environment and improvement of
learners’ diversity) of YES-O in Bula National High School
implemented last school year 2021-2022 and with new
additional activities such as Science Fair, Science
Olympics and Science and YES-O Camp from the
collaboration of Science Club and YES-O. Attached to this
proposal are the mechanics and matrix of the activities
under this project.
This weeklong activity will be conducted
simultaneously in all secondary schools in Bula
District so that no need to travel outside of the school
except the awarding which will be done on the closing
part in Bula National High School. Also, this will be
conducted after the 3rd quarter examination and in a
hybrid modality to ensure no disruption of classes in a
School, and to comply with the DepEd Order No. 034
s. 2022. The activity will be conducted starting April 22,
2023 (Saturday), April 24-26 2023 (Monday to
Wednesday), and April 29-30 (Saturday and Sunday)
2023. There will be no disruption of classes since the
committee will just pull out the participants from their
respective classes except for the enviro-quiz game, Magic
Show, FlipTop Battle, and Science Olympics which will be
done with a short program and will be covered a time of 2-
3 hours. While, the activity that will be held on weekends
are not compulsory and on a voluntary basis only, and
the volunteered participants must bring and submit a
parental consent to the committee before joining the
activity. For the committee who will render services
during weekends, they will be entitled to local service
credits in accordance with DO 53, s. 2003, Updated
Guidelines on Vacation Service Credits to Teachers
and CSC Circular No. 2, s. 2004.
Further, the activities involved are competency-based
and could help the learners attain the following
performance standards:

A. Conduct a forum on mitigation and disaster risk

reduction. S7IIIa-1 & S7FE-IIIb-3.
B. Participate in activities that lessen the risks
brought by typhoons S8ES-IIf-21
C. Participate in activities that reduce risks and lessen
the effects of climate change S9ES-IIIe-30 & S9ES-
