RENK
WE DEFINE WHAT
IS TECHNICALLY
POSSIBLE.

> Our Passion: Marine Engineering.

Shipbuilding is dependent on the enormous levels
of propulsive force and transmission power of its
engines. This is the field in which RENK has always
been known for reliable, powerful, and extremely
efficient gear engineering, ever since its first marine
propulsion system in 1934. Today, our works in
Augsburg, Rheine and Hannover develop and
produce gear systems and drive components,
with great passion and expertise, which continue
to set standards in many new ways. Whatever
the type of vessel our gear systems are built for,
from naval ships to mega yachts and fast ferries,
marine ships to LNG tankers, RENK will get it
moving with the greatest of competence.
The ideal solution for any drive.
RENK gear solutions combine several gas
turbines, diesel engines and electric motors,

> Our objective – no compromises on quality.

The RENK quality philosophy is applied
consistently throughout all of its works and
is the central maxim that guides all of the
company's activities, from project planning and

fulfil these criteria in LNG carriers, container ships,
Ro-Pax ferries, tugs and supply boats and have
proven their reliability over many decades on
all oceans.

Reliability and efficiency – the success formula

for container feeder ships and LNG carriers.
Even the largest and most modern LNG carriers
in the world employ gears, propeller shaft gear
couplings and sliding bearings made by RENK.
Whether used in single or double propeller
systems, our gear units guarantee the highest
levels of reliability and economy, in all sailing
conditions and in combination with electric

safe transportation across all oceans.

RENK
POWERS THE
SHIPPING ELITE.
> A drive shaft's mounting is optimised to improve
the efficiency and running smoothness of the
propulsion system as a whole. RENK supplies
shaft line components to satisfy the needs of the
shipping elite – from modern, high-performance
ferries, luxurious cruise ships and ultra-fast mega
yachts to even submarines – with low noise,
reliability and at highest efficiency.

RENK Hannover Works –

Thrust bearings and radial bearings for shaft lines.
RENK Hannover Works designs, manufactures
and supplies bearing components for marine
applications, including thrust bearings to take
the propeller thrust and radial bearings for the
propeller shaft lines. In addition to its extensive
standard series, RENK also supplies custom-
designed bearings, particularly for marine ships,
in flood proof, shockproof as well as non-magnetic
design. All thrust bearings undergo a test run
under nominal operating conditions on the RENK
test rig. Furthermore, RENK Hann over Works
supplies disconnecting devices for high power
outputs to separate the propeller shaft from the
Diesel engine.

RENK and the Blue Ribbon.
Record breaking requires sophisticated and
reliable engineering. Winning the Blue Ribbon
award for the fastest Atlantic crossing between
Europe and North America with a passenger like
ship demands power, efficiency and reliability in
equal measures. The following vessels, equipped
with RENK gear systems, won the coveted
trophy: the Italian monohull mega yacht Destriero
in 1992, the Danish catamaran ferry Cat Link V
in 1998, and another Danish catamaran ferry, the
Villum Clausen, in 2000. The latter took no more
than 24 hours to cover the 1063 nautical mile
route. We are suitably proud of these successes,
which serve as proof of RENK gear systems'
extraordinary power potential.
