A VOLCANO is produced over thousands of years as heat a

pressure build up. That aspect of a volcano is very difficult to
recreate in a home experiment. However, this volcano will give
you an idea of what it might look like when a volcano erupts
flowing lava. This is a classic experiment in which a CHEMICAL
reaction can create the appearance of a PHYSICAL volcano
eruption.
I. Objectives: a. Describe a volcanic eruption
b. Create a chemical reaction
c. Build a model of a volcan
II. Materials:
Egg carton, Craft scissors, Baking soda, Vinegar, Dropper
Bowl, Cardboard, Hot glue gun, Washable paint (orange, red,
green) and Paintbrush
III. Procedures: You can watch this video link: https://youtu.be/YHidp1SsuKU
1. Using the craft scissors, cut the middles of the egg carton.
2. Cut a piece of cardboard, approximately 4 x 4 inches and glue the egg carton volcanoes onto the
cardboard using a hot glue gun.
3. Next, using a funnel, place about a tablespoon of baking soda into each section.
4. Using the paint, paint the volcanoes to make them look real!
5. Pour a bit of vinegar into a bowl.
6. Using the dropper, squirt vinegar into the holes of the egg carton volcanoes to watch them erupt!
IV. Observations: (Captured and Paste or Draw) Use a separate sheet of paper for your answers if necessary.

How should we respond to the Volcano Disaster Risk Reduction Programs and Projects of
PHIVOLCS when there is a forecast for a volcanic eruption and when there isn’t?
A volcanic eruption is just one of several natural disasters that can cause huge damage to properties and even
take the lives of people. Whether a disaster is caused by nature like an earthquake, tsunami, and typhoons or man-
made like a fire from an explosion, chemical spills and war, we need to be prepared. We need to know the facts,
understand the risks and have a plan in case of an emergency or when disaster strikes.
In this activity, your goal is to learn how to plan for an emergency in order to reduce risks of harmful consequences
and critical threat to the health, safety, security and wellbeing of a community from a disaster.
Click the link below to know more about some steps to successful emergency preparedness.
https://www.phivolcs.dost.gov.ph/index.php/volcano-hazard/volcano-preparedness
Read the situation below and use the planning process for successful emergency preparedness. Conduct a
Role Play to present your town’s emergency preparedness and disaster risk reduction plan.

Kanlaon Volcano (also spelled Canlaon), located on the island of Negros, is one of the most active
volcanoes in the Philippines. The town of Guintubdan is situated 5 kilometers west of the volcano. Given that
you are the mayor of this place, how should you prepare your town for a possible volcanic eruption? What
should you and the town officials include in the municipality’s plan in order to reduce risks from a volcanic
disaster?

Role Play Evaluation. Use a separate sheet of paper for your answers if necessary.

Note: The activity should be given one (1) week before or after the lesson.
I. Objectives: a. relate weather and climate b. describe the factors that affect climate
II. Materials: newspaper clippings (for one (1) week), properly recorded radio weather broadcast, smart phones for
text messages, phone calls, search engines
III. Procedures:
1. The class will be divided into five (5) groups and each group will be assigned to observe the weather and gathering
weather news clipping for about one (1) week from the following places.
Hope – Tagum City Faith – Baguio City Charity – Cebu City
Humility – General Santos Wisdom – Mati City
2. You may cut out weather reports from newspapers, listen to the radio, and / or watch the news on TV. Use your
camera to take some pictures to authenticate data and results.
3. Each group will organize their data and observations accordingly.
4. Presentations of each group will be compared to the other group.
5. You are expected to relate your observations on the following:
a. The distance of the place from the sea or any bodies of water within the area
b. The features of the ocean currents
c. The direction of the prevailing winds
d. The shape of the land based from the relief or topographic map of the Philippines
IV. Observations: (Captured and Paste or Draw) Use a separate sheet of paper for your answers if necessary.
(Record the data that is required at each step of the lab: tables, charts, graphs, sketches, etc.)

V. Discussion: (Do you have the same observations from the other group? why?)

Gaze at our amazing Earth through the transparent celestial sphere.
The celestial globe is a demonstration device that shows the apparent positions
of the stars visible from Earth. The three-dimensional representation allows
the relative angular positions of the constellations to be visualized and permits
students to estimate which stars will be visible from different places on Earth for
any rotational position of the planet.
I. Objectives:
- to demonstrate the relationship between Earth and the stars, planets,
galaxies and other celestial objects in the Universe.
II. Materials: Basic Celestial Star Globe
III. Procedures: Refer to its manual or watch this video link https://youtu.be/YrGfJZhjJHk
You can also explore virtual stargazing using this link: https://stellarium-web.org/ and compare your observations.
IV. Observations: (Captured and Paste or Draw) Use a separate sheet of paper for your answers if necessary.
You are expected to observe the ff.
1. What star is found in the center of the northern hemisphere?
2. What are the constellations with lines on the northern hemisphere?
3. What are the constellations with lines on the southern hemisphere?

V. Discussion: (Discuss what happened in the lab. and describe your learning experience)
