OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to;

1. Compare and contrast heat and temperature, ways of heat

Defining Success

transfer
2. Explain how heat is being transfer between two objects of
different temperature.
3. Compute different temperature using different scales, heat
capacity and specific heat.
4. Discuss the different effects of heat in solid, liquid and gas.
5. Apply the law of heat exchange in a word problem and in daily
life.

KEY POINTS:

1
ASSESSMENT: Heat is the transfer of energy between two
objects with different temperature.
Collaborative Work: 50 % Temperature is the measure of coldness and
hotness of an object.
Heat capacity - is the quantity of heat necessary
Written Output: 20 %
to raise its temperature by 1 ⁰C.
H = mc∆T
Performance: 30 % Specific heat – the amount of heat in joule that is
needed to raise the temperature of 1 kg of the
substance by 1 ⁰C.
c = H
m∆T
HEAT TRANSFER
- The transfer of heat from one body to another.
CONDUCTION – The transmission of heat and
energy from particle to particle.
CONVECTION - The heat energy is distributed by
the liquid or gaseous molecules in circling
currents.
RADIATION - The transfer of heat energy by
electromagnetic waves.
METHODS OF MIXTURES – THE LAW OF HEAT
EXCHANGE
- states that the heat given off equals the heat
absorbed.
H given off = H absorbed
EFFECTS OF HEAT are thermal expansion, solid
expansion, liquid expansion and gas expansion.
