This study examined factors that contribute to restaurant failure using a sample of 163 failed restaurants in the state of Georgia. Through interviews with owners and analysis of business records, the most common reasons for failure were found to be undercapitalization and lack of prior industry experience of the owner. Other significant factors included personal problems of owners, poor location, and financial mismanagement.
