Thinking Green! Worksheet

We need to Explore several examples of real-world problems environmental engineers solve and ways
environmental engineers are solving these problems. Using what you learned, design a product or
service that people in your community can use to help solve an environmental issue. Here are some
questions to help you out:
 What big environmental issue do you want to solve?
 What specific part of this environmental issue are you looking to fix?
 What exactly will your product/service do to help solve this problem?
 What information do you need about the issue in order to design your product/service?

If you have information that you need to know about your issue in order to design your product/service,
use the internet to search for this information. List information you find from this research below.

Microplastic Identification App: The app will provide a simple and user-friendly tool that allows users
to identify microplastics in their cosmetics by scanning the ingredients on packaging.

Now that you have a product or service drawn out, write answers to the questions you considered when
designing your product or service:

1. What big environmental issue do you want to solve? How is your product or service solving that
issue?
9 out of every 10 cosmetic products contain forever polluting microplastics. This was concluded in
a study by BeatTheMicroBead by analyzing 7704 cosmetic and care products of the most popular

of microplastic by sweat glands, hair follicles and open wounds.

3. What exactly will your product/service do to help solve this problem?

The app will provide a simple and user-friendly tool that allows users to identify microplastics in
their cosmetics by scanning the ingredients on packaging.

4. What information about the issue did you consider to design your product/service?
I went through the internet to find out harmful environmental issues and found that microplastics
were very harmful. After researching more about them, I came up with the idea of this app.
5. Now that you have designed your product/service, use the space below to write an advertisement
selling what you’ve designed. Be creative!
