OVERVIEW OF LANGUAGE CENTER (LC)

 
 I.   VISSION
          The Centre of English training  with leading innovation of science, technology and art
and producing professional, creative human resources to compete in both national and
international scope.
II.   MISSION
1. Conducting quality English for Specific Purposes (ESP) program for students.
2. Conducting quality English training for staffs and lecturers to produce professional
human resources who have the ability to reform their knowledge and skills so as to
compete in both national and international scope.
3. Conducting quality English training and teaching for ESP lecturers to produce
professional, creative and skillful lecturers
4. Creating continuous cooperation both inside and outside the university to develop the
English education and training
 
III.   AIMS
1. Producing graduates with high morality, intelligence and skills to be able to reform their
knowledge and skills to compete in both national and international scope
2. Producing human resources with high morality, creativity, skills and professionalism to
be able to reform their knowledge and skills to compete in both national and
international scope
3. Producing ESP lecturers with high morality, creativity, skills and professionalism to
conduct English instruction
4. Producing quality language center programs for the academic community

PROGRAMME
Here are the programs conducted by LC to achieve the above objectives:
1.      English for Specific Purposes
ESP program is offered to freshmen in their first and second semesters in order to provide
English basic skills which are used to read and to comprehend English text books, journals,
and articles in their disciplines. In addition, it is intended to build simple communication both
written and spoken. Specifically, in the end of ESP program, the students are expected to:
a. get basic reading skill for comprehending English references within the scope of their
disciplines.
b. get basic speaking skill with the topics within the scope of their discipline.
c. get basic writing skill for English application letter with topics within the scope of their
discipline.
d. get basic listening skill with topics on their discipline. 
2. Translation
Lc provides the service in translating (Indonesian – English , English – Indonesian):
a. Documents (examples: Certificate, Transcript, Birth Certificate, Student Report, etc)
b. Texts (examples: articles, journal, etc)
3. English Proficiency Test
To measure the English competence, LC administers English Proficiency Test. The test is
administered :
a. English proficiency test for freshmen. It is administered at the beginning of their
academic year. It is to measure freshmen’s English proficiency before joining ESP
program.
b. English proficiency test for ESP graduates. It is administered every even semester before
ESP Graduation Ceremony is held. It is to measure the graduates’ improvement in
English after joining ESP program.
c. English proficiency test for university graduates. It is conducted before university
graduation ceremony (bachelor degree). It aims at measuring the graduates’ English
proficiency.
d. English proficiency test for individuals and groups. It is administered to individuals or
groups for a particular purpose.
