Until now, wifi connectivity has always been dependent on routers, base stations and other bridging hardware

that helped two wifi devices to connect to each other. However, now The Wifi Alliance has announced that by the year 2010, an all new wireless connectivity protocol will be in effect that will enable wifi enabled devices establish connection with each other to send and receive data. All those device running on the new protocol standard will be able to perform the sharing functions almost instantaneously. This peer-to-peer to connectivity, dubbed Wifi Direct will be a great help to users who nowadays are switching over to wireless devices for the sake of convenience and efficient use. Wifi Direct will act as a smart wireless connection protocol, enabling devices such as, cell phones, keyboards, mouse, printers and other wireless enable hardware to connect to their corresponding mates and can also connect to each other in a group. According to Edgar Figueroa (Executive Director, Wifi Direct), Wi-Fi Direct represents a leap forward for our industry. Wi-Fi users worldwide will benefit from a single-technology solution to transfer content and share applications quickly and easily among devices, even when a Wi-Fi access point isnt available. The impact is that Wi-Fi will become even more pervasive and useful for consumers and across the enterprise. The all new Wifi Direct protocol seems quite like the Bluetooth technology, where two bluetooth enabled devices directly connect to each other, without the need of any bridging hardware. The latest update to the bluetooth protocol, also known as Bluetooth 3.0, gives the users the freedom to switch from bluetooth to wifi, without breaking the active connection. This features greatly helps, when it comes to sharing or transferring of large amounts of data over the air. The Wifi Direct protocol will allow the devices to search and connect with other devices and the all new standard will be secure connection, as it is built upon the WPA2 security parameters.

Market requirements and JEDEC standards lead to innovation, performance and new technologies.

Mobile devices create a bottomless market for memory ICs.

Standards, particularly from the JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Council) Solid State Technology Association, are vital to evolution in mobile memory. Solid-state drives are starting to change the level of integration for mobile memory, especially in tablets. As the number of mobile devices worldwide surges, the need for better, cheaper memory for these devices soars. Numerous alternatives are available for mobile memory. Industry standards abound, and others are still in development. By all accounts, this market is on the upswing, so where do all of the memory technologies and form factors fit in, and whats on the horizon for mobile memory?

According to estimates from IHS iSuppli Research, the growth of sales for smartphones and tablets will increase revenue in the mobile-memory market by 26% in 2011 to $16.4 billion, compared with $13 billion in 2010 and, iSuppli projects, $19.3 billion in 2012 (Reference 1). Gregory Wong, principal analyst at Forward Insights, agrees that consumer devices, particularly smartphones and tablets, are driving memory demands. He observes two basic types of memory available for these devices: eMMC (embedded multimedia card), a low-power JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) Solid State Technology Association standard, and solid-state drives. Solid-state drives offer better IOPS (input/output operations per second) for tablets than does the JEDEC standard but at a higher cost and power consumption (Figure 1). Increasing performance and maintaining low power are the major challenges for memory designers, and many see universal flash storage, which accomplishes these goals, as the next big thing. Vendor support is weaker than it was when JEDEC first proposed the standard, according to Wong. As such, a solid-state drive with a lowpower SATA (serialadvanced-technology-attachment) interface could be an alternative. For example, the idle power of the SATA PHY [physical layer] is quite large, he says. You could make it low power by turning off the PHY when [it is] idle.

Windows Mobile
Windows Mobile Professional Smartphones (what used to be known as Pocket PC Phones or Windows Mobile PDA Phones) are phone-enabled handhelds with full-featured PDA functionality. These devices have touchscreens (and often stylus pens), and usually include integrated QWERTY keyboards for data entry. Windows Phone 7 has replaced Windows Mobile as Microsoft's consumer smartphone OS. Windows Mobile Professional Smartphones are shown below by wireless carriers and/or brand name:

Android phones
Another often on end 960 touch all hidden feels year, another Droid smartphone from Motorola. Sequels become dull, but somehow we never get tired of Motorolas high end slider Android phone. The Droid 3 Verizon Wireless amps the specs to match todays high handsets: a dual core 1GHz CPU, a sharp 4 qHD 540 x screen and both front and rear cameras. The tweaks arent inside; we particularly like the Droid 3s keyboard that better than ever and sports a dedicated number row.

Those of you who have a Droid 2 are likely still under contract and won't be looking at this phone as your upgrade, but original Motorola Droid owners should definitely check out Droid the third. As weve come to expect from the Motorola Droid, build quality is excellent with plenty of metal, a soft touch finish and a luxurious keyboard slider mechanism. The phone runs Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread with Motoblur software. Verizon and Moto throw in some business oriented software like Citrix, but there's fun stuff too like the game Nova HD (playable demo) and all the Adobe Flash you can eat. Battery life is good with the stock 1540 mAh Lithium Ion battery (a consolation for not getting 4G LTE).

The design is masculine and elegant. The phone has 4 front capacitive Android buttons that work well, a micro HDMI 1.3a port, micro USB port and a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack. The small power button is up top and its a bit hard to press. Thats good for avoiding accidental power ons, but annoying when you actually intend to turn on the phone. Verizon says the Droid 3 is the slimmest QWERTY slider smartphone, and that thinness, combined with a metal battery cover, means that the back of the phone sometimes gets warm to the touch. Why? Metal transfers heat and the thinner the phone, the closer the motherboard is to the casing. The 4 Gorilla Glass display sports the same resolution as the Motorola Atrix 4G and HTC Sensation 4G; qHD 540 x 960 vs. the usual 800 x 480. We appreciate the extra pixels when viewing web pages and photos, and the 240dpi pentile display is both sharp and bright. The phone has a tricolor notification LED above the display. The Droid 3 keyboard is one of our favorites among lateral sliders. Its roomy, tactile and the keys arent slippery. New for the Droid 3 is a dedicated number row thats highlighted in light gray vs. black for the alpha keys. Alternate characters are masked in yellow vs. white for the main characters and the backlight is an even white. The keyboard slides out with a pleasing click and locks in place; its definitely a sturdy mechanism. Four arrow keys handle directional navigation, and there are buttons for voice command, search and OK. The @ symbol and / dont require secondary key presses but theres only one shift key (on the left).

Description
WT21 is intendend for Bluetooth applications where a host processor is capable of running the Bluetooth software stack. WT21 only implements the low level Bluetooth Host Controller Interface (HCI) but still offers advantages of a module- easy implementation and certifications. WT21 is based on CSRs BlueCore-6 chip and offers the lowest current consumption and the highest integration level in its class. WT21 supports Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR standard. It also has AudiStream technology built in, which significantly improves the quality of voicein audio applications. WT21 supports any Bluetooth software stack that implements the standard Bluetooth HCI interface. The software stack can interface to the module either via UART, SDIO or SPI interface. WT21 offers Bluetooth in integrated form factor that is easy to understand, manage and source. It is an ideal product for an OEM who does not want to spend significant amount of time and money to RF regulatory

approvals and designing a complex 2,4 GHz radio product. By utilizing Bluegigas world-class integration services and technical support, OEMs can beassured that their products reach the market quickly and cost efficiently. It is clear that one of the most important trends in computing, for both desktop PCs and notebook computers, is wireless connectivity. This trend to eliminate as many computer cords as possible is one reason why the Bluetooth wireless keyboard will eventually replace their corded counterparts. Because of the advances in battery life and in wireless technology networking, the day is coming that everything that needs to communicate with your computer, from the keyboard to the mouse and every other needed peripheral, will do so wirelessly. Some manufacturers are also offering enabled keyboard models of this technology, which can be used with any enabled computer of this technology, be it a desktop model or a laptop. In fact, these keyboards can also be used with a handheld computer or with a Bluetooth wireless technology PDA. While you probably dont want to lug around your keyboard with your PDA, it can be a nice option if you want to quickly add contacts or notes from the home or office where you are using your keyboard. If you are ready to make the switch to a Bluetooth wireless keyboard and a mouse, then one of the more popular options is the Wireless Multimedia Bluetooth Keyboard and Laser Mouse. This combination package of keyboard and mouse employs mobile wireless technology networking that has been getting very positive reviews from users. One note though, it will only operate with Windows computers and not with any Apple Macintosh personal computers. Both the enabled keyboard of this technology and the wireless mouse utilize a USB adapter key, which is included in the package. This USB adapter key uses the WIDCOMM version 5.1, which gives the devices a range of up to 60 feet. However, this range might be considered overkill since not much will be readable on your computer screen at a distance of 60 feet, not matter how big the words or how sharp your eyes. The Bluetooth wireless keyboard and the mouse are just the first step in eliminating the wires and cords that can be so annoying and cumbersome. In addition to the convenience of working without wires, thanks to todays mobile wireless technology, there are also some real benefits in ergonomics. With a wireless keyboard and mouse, you will no longer be limited to where you can position your keyboard, but can place it where it is most comfortable and where you are in an ergonomically correct position.

Daft Punk Bearbricks: Musicians and Robots and Bears..

ToysREvil - the last position of our TOP, has the scoop on a limited edition pair of Daft Punk Bearbricks, meant to coincide with the release of Daft Punk's Alive 2007 CD. Medicom will release 3000 of these toys on December 5, package them with a copy of the CD and sell it for 5250 Yen (), presumably in Japan. The Bearbricks also come housed in a pyramid, not unlike the one Daft Punk used for their epic live shows. The set as a whole looks pretty sweet, but I think I like the earlier Daft Punk/Medicom collaborations better...and now I sound like an obsessive DP fanboy.

The 9th place - Bandai Tachikoma Electronics Robot

Amongst a myriad of plastic creatures/chisels accessible for fans, Bandai has plans to sell a remote controlled Tachikoma in Japan beginning February. No 8 - Robotic Lady Bug Cleaning Machine

This meter-high ladybug is a prototype robot cleaner but, if tests go well, could be the new face of washroom hygiene in Japan. As well as putting a nice shine to the bathroom floor with its scrubbing abilities, the light-up insect, which is being developed for NEXCO, has all sorts of other skills. Hidden beneath the bug's silver skirts are obstacle-detection sensors, and a microphone housed in its antenna allow basic communication. Speech recognition software gives the bug basic conversation skills, and for those people brave enough to be seen in public talking to a three-foot high bug, it can report on local traffic conditions. First port of call for the ,000 Bug 'Bot is selected restrooms in highway service stations but, if all goes well, expect to see these giant insects in hotel bathrooms and other public areas by March 2009.
