Statement of the Problem


This study aims to assess the participants’ level of
listening skills and their difficulties in English.
Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:
1. What is the profile of the participants in terms of:
1.1 gender;
1.2 parents’ occupation; and
1.3 grade in English?
2. What is the participants’ level of listening skills?
3. Is there a significant difference in the participants’
assessed level of listening skills when grouped according to
profile variables?
4. What are the difficulties encountered by the participants in
listening in English?
Note: Data for this SOP should be gathered through an intensive
interview, so the researcher could comprehensively and
substantially present data later. The researcher needs to
categorize and cluster the answers according to themes. See
Sample table below.

All data gathered from the research were organized,

summarized, analyzed, and interpreted using descriptive and/or

inferential statistics. The data were treated using the

Statistical Package for Social Science for Windows (SPSS for

Windows).

The statistical tools presented below were used in the

study.

tool was utilized to describe the profile of the participants

Statement of the Problem

This action research aimed to improve the reading


abilities of slow readers and reader-at-risk Grade Two
pupils in Kabugawan Elementary School for the school year
2022-2023 through phonics approach. This will provide
necessary remedial measures to correct and improve the
reading potentials of these pupils.
Specifically, it seeks to answer the following
questions:

1. How can I improve the reading abilities of my slow


readers and reader-at-risk pupils relative to the
identified reading difficulties?

2. What is the recognition level of each group of pupils


after the phonics approach is used?
