Theatrical Production
A theatrical production is the process involved in
conversion of a dramatic text into a theatrical
performance which involves a diverse range of art
forms from acting, direction, production, lighting, stage
props, costume designing, music, backstage support
etc.
Board of Directors
o It includes the President, Vice President,
Secretary and Treasurer.
o Maintains club budgets and finances.
o Approves, and if necessary, sets budgets
o Selects production, artistic directors and
producer.
o Approves all other production staff
appointments.
o Adiudicate any casting and production issues
not resolved by board representative,
producers and artistic director.
Producer
o Develops budget for performance fees.
Theater rent, theater labor, publicity,
programs, music, costumes, set construction
supplies, construction expenses, fundraising
expenses, which is approved by the board.
o Secures right to production selected by the
board of directors and ensures all involved in
production are made aware of those rights.
o Arranges rehearsal space, audition space and
production meetings.
Board Representative for Casting
o Participates in auditions and casting meeting
and ensure casting guidelines are followed.
o Bring draft cast list to the board if there are
unresolved Issues regarding casting
guidelines.
o Releases final cast list.
Director
o Sets the vision for the production and guides
the actors during rehearsals.
o Brings together the complex pieces of
production; script, actors, set, costuming,
lighting, sound, and music into unified whole.
o Interprets the script
o Collaborates with designers
Artistic Director
o Responsible for all artistic decisions.
o Block all scenes, and runs blocking rehearsals
and general rehearsals.
o Delegates most of the decisions to respective
positions and may overrule any designated
decisions when necessary.
o Organizes auditions, approved by the board or
board of representative.
Musical Director
o Represents the artistic director on all musical
matters and decisions in orchestra rehearsals
and music or song auditions and also assist
the director with casting decisions.
o Works with technical crew on sound,
microphones, balance, etc.
Technical Director
o Surveys performances space for the technical
production elements or capabilities.
o Serve as a consultant to production staff on
technical issues.
o Develops lighting design based on the set
design and survey of production space lighting
capabilities.
Publicity Director
o Advertises shows and auditions.
o Develops detailed budget within budget ceiling
from the producer.
o Is selected by and reports to the producer.
Stage Manager
o Is present at all performances or every stage
rehearsals and maintains order in the cast and
records blocking notes for the stage director.
o Provides lines cues when necessary, as
production week approaches and the cast
goes off book.
o Calls all cues for lighting and sound effects
Playwright
o Creates scripts and may develop a new script
with feedback and guidance from dramaturge.
o Dramaturge deals with the research and
development of the play or orchestra.
o Needs to have a vivid imagination; gripping
story to tell; insight of what makes the people
ticks; good ear to capture the way people
speak, working knowledge of dramatic
structure, understanding of theater's non
verbal expression.
Choreographer
o Represents the artistic director on all
choreographic matters and decisions,
including choreographing dances, running
choreography rehearsals, selecting numbers,
etc.
o May designate assistant choreographers and
delegate any responsibilities as appropriate
Stage/Set Designer
o Designs Scenery with input from artistic
director.
o Establishes set construction budget and
submits to the producer for approval.
o Creates set construction schedule, which
consists of sessions that will not conflict with
rehearsal schedule.
o Is selected by the producer and artistic
director, reports to the artistic director
regarding stage/set designs.
Costume Designer
o Identifies necessary costume requirements.
o Obtains/purchases/sews/rents/acquire
necessary costumes.
o Organizes cast members to help acquire
necessary costumes.
 o Repairs existing costume when necessary.
o Organizes return of cleaned costumes to
general club storage after production.

Sound Designer
o Plans and provides the sound effects or
soundscape for the production.
