M By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to listen to definitions and find at least words to match the definitions.
C By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to listen and say at least 70% of longer words correctly.
SUCCESS CRITERIA
1. Pupils can find at least four words to match the definitions heard.
2. Pupils can hear and say at least 70% of longer words correctly.

1. Write the topics Jobs and Places on the board.


2. Play Hangman with the pupils.
Pre-lesson
3. Focus on words related to the two topics.
4. e.g. doctor, hospital, policeman, etc.

5. Activity 1:
a. Warm-up: Call out the names of some jobs and places. (TB pg 20)
b. Ask the pupils to put up one hand if they hear a job and two hands if they hear a place.
e.g. doctor, lawyer, library, hospital, teacher, school, etc.

6. Activity 2:
a. Refer the pupils to the picture and elicit what they can see. (SB pg 6-7)
e.g. What can you see? Who can you see? What are they doing?

b. Have the pupils work in pairs to find three words beginning with the letters p,s,b,f and c.
c. Set the time limit and then check answers as a class.

Lesson delivery 7. Activity 3:


a. Review answers to Activity 2 by having pupils listen to the word and point to the picture.
b. Drill the new words as they point.
c. Focus on difficult sounds and word stress of longer words such as photographer, businesswoman and
police officer.
d. Ask pupils to count the syllables with their fingers and highlight the stressed syllable as they say the
longer words. (Assessment)
8. Activity 4:
a. Read aloud the definitions you have prepared.
b. Pupils listen to your definitions and try to find the words you are describing. (Assessment)
c. They should write the words. [E.g. This is a person who rides the waves on a board].
d. Check answers and draw attention to spelling where needed.
e. Have pupils prepare some similar definitions and play the game in small groups.

Post lesson 9. Review learning by asking pupils to say which words they often use in their own daily lives.
