Speech

Good morning mam, my name is Naman Sharma today I’m here to speak about my favorite novel, the invisible
man which was first published in 1897 by a renowned science fiction author Herbert George Wells and
serialized in the Pearson’s weekly.

The novel is set in the town of Iping during a snowstorm; a stranger named Griffin enters the inn of Mrs. Halls.
He wishes not be disturbed and is covered in bandages, a mysterious aura surrounds him. The townspeople
were filling ears about his origins. Months passed but griffin couldn’t pay the rent. Mrs. Hall threatened to
throw him out. But just after a mysterious robbery in the town, griffin has the money she needs, which makes
him come in the spotlight even more. The townspeople go to confront him where they find out he is invisible
and manages to escape. Griffin asks a random person Thomas Marvel for help to get his luggage from the inn.
Marvel successfully gets the job done but is threatened by Griffin to help him even more and chases him
down. They meet in port stove in a pub but griffin gets shot and runs failing to silence Thomas. He reaches Dr.
Kemp’s house, his old college colleague bleeding and tells him how he made his body invisible while
researching in optics and wants to terrorize the town and needs his help. But to his surprise, Kemp refuses to
help him and runs away. Kemp tells everyone his plan and the man hunting begins. Griffin catches Kemp
eventually but the townspeople get a hold of him and beat him to death, after which his body slowly begins to
be visible again.

The novel is concerned with immorality and the question of how humans would behave if there were no
consequences. By turning himself invisible in a scientific experiment, Griffin secures an enormous amount of
freedom.  It seeks to impart a lot of moral messages indirectly to the reader. Indeed, this message comes in
the form of a warning about certain immoral behaviors, most notably greed and self-interest. It tells the story
of the uprising of an anonymous to the downfall of a monster and what happens when the right invention falls
in the wrong hands.

Thank you.
