Our Mission

Through its commitment to the truths of Christianity and a biblical worldview,

The King’s College seeks to transform society by preparing students for careers
in which they help to shape and eventually to lead strategic public and private
institutions, and by supporting faculty members as they directly engage culture
through writing and speaking publicly on critical issues.

The sole basis of our beliefs is the Bible, God’s infallible written Word, the 66
books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe that it was uniquely,
verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, and that it was written without
error (inerrant) in the original manuscripts. It is the supreme and final authority
in all matters on which it speaks.
We accept those areas of doctrinal teaching on which, historically, there has
been general agreement among all true Christians. Because of the specialized
calling of our movement, we desire to allow for freedom of conviction on other
doctrinal matters, provided that any interpretation is based upon the Bible alone,
and that no such interpretation shall become an issue which hinders the ministry
to which God has called us.
We explicitly affirm our belief in basic Bible teachings, as follows:
1. There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons-Father, Son
and Holy Spirit-each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity
and the characteristics of personality.
2. Jesus Christ is God the living Word, who became flesh through His
miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. Hence, He
is perfect Deity and true humanity united in one person forever.
3. He lived a sinless life and voluntarily atoned for the sins of men by
dying on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and
accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone.
4. He rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He
lived and died.
5. He ascended bodily into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God
the Father, where He, the only mediator between God and man,
continually makes intercession for His own.
6. Man was originally created in the image of God. He sinned by
disobeying God; thus, he was alienated from his Creator. That historic fall
brought all mankind under divine condemnation.
7. Man’s nature is corrupted, and he is thus totally unable to please God.
Every man is in need of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
8. The salvation of man is wholly a work of God’s free grace and is not the
work, in whole or in part, of human works or goodness or religious
ceremony. God imputes His righteousness to those who put their faith in
Christ alone for their salvation, and thereby justified them in His sight.
9. It is the privilege of all who are born again of the Spirit to be assured of
their salvation from the very moment in which they trust Christ as their
Savior. This assurance is not based upon any kind of human merit, but is
produced by the witness of the Holy Spirit, who confirms in the believer
the testimony of God in His written Word.
10. The Holy Spirit has come into the world to reveal and glorify Christ
and to apply the saving work of Christ to men. He convicts and draws
sinners to Christ, imparts new life to them, continually indwells them from
the moment of spiritual birth and seals them until the day of redemption.
His fullness, power and control are appropriated in the believer’s life by
faith.
11. Every believer is called to live so in the power of the indwelling Spirit
that he will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, but will bear fruit to the glory of
God.
12. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, His Body, which is composed
of all men, living and dead, who have been joined to Him through saving
faith.
13. God admonishes His people to assemble together regularly for
worship, for participation in ordinances, for edification through the
Scripture and for mutual encouragement.
14. At physical death the believer enters immediately into eternal,
conscious fellowship with the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body
to everlasting glory and blessing.
15. At physical death the unbeliever enters immediately into eternal,
conscious separation from the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body
to everlasting judgment and condemnation.
16. Jesus Christ will come again to the earth-personally, visibly and
bodily-to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.
17. The Lord Jesus Christ commanded all believers to proclaim the gospel
throughout the world and to disciple men of every nation. The fulfillment
of that Great Commission requires that all worldly and personal ambitions
be subordinated to a total commitment to “Him who loved us and gave
Himself for us.”

We’re flexible. King’s Crossover is a hybrid program that lets you complete up
to two years of coursework online and a minimum of two years in New York
City. To meet families where they are, we offer our unique politics, philosophy,
and economics core curriculum in an online format with the same academic
standards as our on-campus courses. When you’re ready (whether that’s after
just one semester or as many as four), transition to New York City to complete
your degree: no need to re-apply.
Crossover students are required to attend a one week-long visit to campus
during Interregnum week (April 5-11) in the spring 2021 semester.

Why the Core Curriculum?

At The King’s College, all students complete the entire Core Curriculum
throughout their four years of study to develop a broad and coherent intellectual
foundation for principled leadership in careers after graduation.
We believe that students who aspire to influence the key institutions of society
for the better need to know the best ideas, the most important arguments, and
the most influential traditions. King’s students read the literature, sacred texts,
laws, and philosophical inquiries that have come to shape our civilization.
Within the social context of these developments, they learn the religious,
historical, philosophical, political, and economic components that have brought
us to where we are today. Students read the Greek philosophers at the same time
as the Old Testament.
Most colleges and universities in the United States have a small number of core
courses that all students must take, like a freshman writing course. The King’s
Core comprises nearly half of the courses students need to graduate and spaces
out these courses over all four years. We see the ideas within the Core as central
to students’ academic lives, no matter what major they pursue. The Core
Curriculum is an interdisciplinary, holistic approach to Christian education
comprising the ruling disciplines of politics, philosophy, and economics in
tandem with the traditional liberal arts—history, literature, writing, theology,
science, and math.

B.A. in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics

The Politics, Philosophy, and Economics major at The King’s College builds
upon the required Core Curriculumto teach students the fundamental principles
of the three ruling disciplines with a strong theological bent in order to develop
influential leaders, who are effective for what God calls good.
Within the Core Curriculum in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, students
read the literature, sacred texts, laws, and philosophical inquiries that have come
to shape our civilization. Within the social context of these developments,
students learn the religious, historical, philosophical, political, and economic
components that have brought us to where we are today. The Core consists of
eighteen courses—nearly half of the courses students need to graduate—spaced
throughout all four years of study.
The PPE major builds upon this foundation with intensive courses in all three
disciplines. In Politics, we examine questions raised, for example, in Plato’s
Republic and Aristotle’s Politics, then explore the American political tradition,
its history, philosophic formation, and expression in literature. In Philosophy,
we study the metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics of the major philosophers in
a historical sequence. In Economics, we study how wealth is created or human
potential squandered, how we make choices based on expected costs and
benefits, and how markets coordinate these choices through fluctuating prices.
Upperclassmen study court decisions in constitutional law that change the
course of American life, address issues in American civil rights and global
human rights, and form moral positions on matters concerning commerce,
technology, and medicine.
The curriculum also prepares students for public debate and advocacy by
including several persuasive writing and speaking components. The aim is to
prepare graduates who are not just knowledgeable about the world, but ready to
act in it.
Politics, Philosophy, and Economics Course List

On top of all courses within the Core Curriculum, PPE majors will take the
following courses:
• Ancient Philosophy
• Medieval Philosophy
• Modern Philosophy
• Principles of Biblical Interpretation
• Constitutional Law
• Enlightenment and Liberal Democracy
• Economic Development, International Economics, or International
Politics
• Political Economy
• Macroeconomics

and American Poetry, Politics and Literature, or Statesmanship
Politics, Philosophy, and Economics majors will additionally take five electives
from a list of relevant courses, including at least one course each from the
categories in politics, philosophy, and economics. Seniors with a GPA of 3.6 or
higher may elect to write a senior thesis for academic credit on a subject
relevant to politics, philosophy, or economics. Course descriptions, codes,
prerequisites, and a full course map are available in the college catalog.

Concentrations

Students with a particular interest in one aspect of the Politics, Philosophy, and
Economics major may make that subject a concentration. A concentration
provides a documented record of having studied either politics, philosophy, or
economics with particular depth. This can help a student prepare for graduate
school or for employment in that field of interest, such as at the State
Department or with an investment firm. These concentrations allow students to
focus the use of their required five PPE electives and two of their seven open
electives.
Politics
Students pursuing a concentration in Politics will take one elective in
comparative politics, one elective in international relations, three additional
Politics electives, at least two of which must be 300- or 400-level courses or
Senior Thesis (if a politics topic).

Students pursuing a concentration in Philosophy will select four of the
following courses:
• Topics in Medieval Philosophy
• Plato
• Epistemology

Hello, Everyone! My name is Honghee Jo. I am living in Vienna, Austria. I just
graduated on July at Prayner Conservatory in Vienna. I cherish the hope of stay
connecting with each other. I believe that I can learn lots of things through
Master and also through the teachers in Mannes school of Music. I always
concern about how to build up my performance level. I have a lot of thoughts
about my future before my final exams in Vienna. Last semester, I took a
musical audition ‘The beauty and the beast’ main character ‘Belle’ by chance,
and I fall in love with acting, so I started working in Korea. I believe that my
experiences of acting will help me to improve my stuydy in Opera. I studied
different era scripts such as William Shakespeare, Anton chekhov,Arthur
Miller..etc. Also 2 years ago, it was my first time to tried Drama acting with
many professional actors and actresses. I feel burdened because I didn’t have
any experiences at all. So I was keep practicing everyday to improve my
technique, even sleep over in the practice room only for 2 hours per day. Day by
day, my acting skill, for example inner tone, psysical action, analysis, studying
the external circumstances, and creating inner circumstances is getting more
matural and more professional. Finally. my performance was successed at the
performing day. And I could absorb the knowledges and information in a short
time. For example, I have written five musicals also trained 5 musical students
in a month at school for acting, singing and dancing in Korea. I think, with my
experiences of drama acting, I’m able to study the Opera role much better,
analyze the acting during Opera performance as well. Because of my diplom, I
came back to Vienna last year. In my final concert, I received many
encouragement from teachers and directors because of my singing and acting
skills. With all the encouragement and experiences in Korea and Austria, I
would love to step up to a better platform, and become a professional singer in
the future. I think Mannes is the best place for me.
My determination is to study here and I'm ready for it.

The Politics, Philosophy, and Economics major at The King’s College teaches
students the fundamental principles of these three “ruling disciplines.” Oxford
University created the first PPE degree in 1920 for training leaders of the British
Empire. It is the curriculum of statesmen for leadership in any important sphere of
life. King’s unique PPE program strengthens this tradition with a coherent core and a
biblical grounding. We study the masterworks of each discipline, including the works
of Plato and Aristotle, Augustine and Anselm, James Madison, Abraham Lincoln,
Adam Smith, and F.A. Hayek. This major explores who we are as human beings:
what and how we know (Philosophy), how we live together and govern ourselves
(Politics), and how we think about wealth and poverty (Economics), because, as
Jesus Christ observed, how we handle those things reveals what—or who—we
treasure the most.
