    Why was rizal’s retraction important to the friars

    By showing a retraction letter, the Spanish authorities are anticipating that Rizal's
    passing won't turn into a sob for the Filipinos in the journey for independence.
    They dread it a lot that the authorities even broke an agreement to his family to
    give the body to them after the execution and instead, they discarded his body on a
    plain grave. This retraction letter will likewise fill in as a face saving measure for
    the friars whom Rizal ridiculed and scrutinized in his books.
