Post Rehearsal or Lesson Reflections

Content Adjustment: Based on diagnostic and formative assessments during today’s lesson/rehearsal, list any repertoire
or activities that were omitted from the plan. Why? Will the omitted items need to be included in tomorrow’s
lesson/rehearsal?

I was asked to do warm-ups last minute and I re-used most of my previos lesson plan.

Rehearsal or Lesson Adjustment: If you were going to re-teach today’s lesson/rehearsal, how would you have done it
differently.

If I were to re-teach today’s lesson I would work on my transition times. I would often loose their attention and would have
to bring them back to focus.

Reflection on Teaching: Analyze and evaluate your lesson/rehearsal and classroom management.

I feel that I need to work on retaining their attention, but that I was able to keep behavior in check.

Critical Thinking Reflection Essay

Though I was unable to capture the lesson on video, we had a fantastic discussion about the
true meaning of the piece. My students were able to decipher the meaning of the poetry and
how it relates to the composition. I was also able to get my students to connect with the text on
a personal level. Some of them shared what the text meant to them, and some shared stories of
how they experience oppression in America. While we may have spent too much time
discussing the text versus singing the piece, I feel that it was an important step in the creative
process that they had never done before. I believe it affected the way they sung the piece, and it
brought out a whole new level of musicianship I hadn’t seen in them.
