3/22 Sectional!

Intro/Warmup:
● Tune to F#
● Warmup

Tripwire:
● M. 35-59 (chunking: 35-43, 43-51, 51-59)
○ Teach “rip,” shows up in m.35 & m.37
○ Review syncopated rhythms; what’s syncopation? Maybe do some clapping
○ Starts at forte, emphasis on contrast with decresendos/crescendos
○ Sneaky background part at m.47
○ Melody at m.51, legato, less punchy
■ Where should we be tounging?

Into the Blue:


● C-end
○ *In B, altos had main rhythm, In C there we have counter-rhythm*
■ Tap tempo, clap rhythm slowly
○ Space between eighth notes to keep up energy & tempo
■ Not the same as staccato!
■ Maybe have them “ta” the rhythms trying different articulations to hear
the difference?
○ Dynamics!
■ Mf x3, cres. to F, F x3, back to Mf, decres. fade out or to P

Introductions! - 10 minutes

● Share your name, grade, school, one of your favorite songs, favorite food and why
● Students please write their name in the upper left corner on all of the music in their
folder. Assessment: hand on your head when you’re done
● No cell phone use :) we’ve got work to do!

● F Stretches descending/ascending, The Dot Life is the Best Life

Pevensey Castle - 10 mins - Abby

● This week we'll work on beginning-45, next week we'll review and add the fun section
(45-73). If your students are ahead of schedule, feel free to work on 45-73 in sectionals
this week.
○ Clarinets and Saxophones are alone mm. 5-13: make sure this is confident!
○ When handing out part assignments, make sure the second part is heavier
○ Clarinets and Saxophones in mm. 37: Articulation and volume, we want this to
cut through the ensemble. Space in between the notes.
○ Big style change at 45- work on this articulation and volume without cracking/
blatting.

BRAIN BREAK! - 5 mins

● We'll be running B-C in full band rehearsal. Specifically review during sectionals:
○ Concert Ab notes and fingerings
○ There's an ostinato pattern throughout, make sure your section feels confident
with this.
