Some facts about Parallel Structures
Parallel structure refers to the use of grammatical elements or patterns
that have the same function and express similar and balanced ideas. For
example, if the first word in a group or series of words is a noun, then
the following items should also be nouns; if it is a verb, then all the other
items should also be verbs.
The following are some examples:
1. The hotel was owned by Mr. S, his wife, and sons. (nouns)
2. The health officer inspected the kitchen, observed the operation and
explained some health protocols. (verbs)
3. The teacher is kind, friendly, and understanding. (adjective)
4. She folded the clothes neatly, nicely, and orderly. (adverbs)

In constructing sentences having similar or parallel forms, the following

rules should be observed.
1. Use parallel structure with elements joined by the coordinating
conjunctions for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so.
Examples:
a. You can use sugar or honey to sweeten the flavor.

of being.

conjunctions either... neither... nor, both... and, and not only... but

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up

and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold
these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created
equal."
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of
Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of
former slave owners will be able to sit down together
at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of
Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of
injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will
be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day
live in a nation where they will not be judged by the
color of their skin but by the content of their
character

[Rihanna:]
I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive
I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise
To fly
To fly

[Nicki Minaj:]
I wish today it will rain all day
Maybe that will kinda make the pain go away
Trying to forgive you for abandoning me
Praying but I think I'm still an angel away
Angel away, yeah strange in a way
Maybe that is why I chase strangers away
They got their guns out aiming at me
But I become Neo when they're aiming at me

Me, me, me against them

Me against enemies, me against friends
Somehow they both seem to become one
A sea full of sharks and they all smell blood

They start coming and I start rising

Must be surprising, I'm just surmising
I win, thrive, soar, higher, higher, higher
More fire

[Rihanna:]
I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive
I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise
To fly
To fly

[Nicki Minaj:]
Everybody wanna try to box me in
Suffocating every time it locks me in
Painting their own pictures then they crop me in
But I will remain where the top begins

'Cause I am not a word, I am not a line

I am not a girl that can ever be defined
I am not fly, I am levitation
I represent an entire generation

I hear their criticism loud and clear

That is how I know that the time is near
So we become alive in a time of fear
And I ain't got no motherfucking time to spare

Cry my eyes out for days upon days

Such a heavy burden placed upon me
But when you go hard your nays become yays
Yankee Stadium with Jays and Kanyes

[Rihanna:]
I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive
I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise
To fly
To fly

[Nicki Minaj:]
Get ready for it
Get ready for it
Get ready for it
I came to win
Get ready for it
Get ready for it

I came to win
