Curriculum Innovation

1. Identify different strategies and approaches done by teachers in designing a

curriculum that is culturally relevant and responsive to the learners.
● Activate students’ prior knowledge - encouraging students to use their
experiences to contribute in discussion and group activities.
● Make learning contextual - citing relevant examples that are present in society
and why it’s important.
● Encouraging students to leverage their cultural capacity- choosing the right topic
that can relate to every student, especially those who are on the marginalized
border. Making them feel that their culture has values and that they are heard.
● Reconsider your Classroom Setup - Considering small changes to cater
differences, trying to make equality inside the classroom and make everyone feel
inclusive.
● Build Relationships- communication is the key to build good relationships. Speak
with respect, consider everyones’ feelings and be kind to each student in that
way students may feel that they are valued and their feelings are validated.

2. What are examples of indigenous curriculum implemented in the Philippines?

● Alternative Learning Systems (ALS) Curriculum for Indigenous People (IPs)
Education
● The Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSPs)

3. Identify examples of curriculum models for gifted learners in the Philippines?

● Renzulli’s School Wide Enrichment Model (SEM)
● Bett’s Autonomous Learners Model (ALM)
● VanTassel-Baska’s Integrated Curriculum Model (ICM)
● Gagne’s Differentiated MOdel of Giftedness and Talent (DMGT)
● Gentry’s Total School Cluster Grouping (TSCG)

4. How does a differentiated curriculum respond to the needs of special learners in a

regular classroom?
- By giving alternative learning activities that encourage the students strengths
and bring all of them into one direction with the same learning objective.
5. What are the possible benefits of implementing an outcome -based curriculum in
higher education?
● Transparency- creates a clear expectation of the best outcomes. Teachers and
students can both have a common understanding of what is expected of them
during the course.
● Pliability- By reading what has to be done in a straightforward manner, teachers
may build their lessons in accordance with the preferences of the students.
● Analysis- Teachers will evaluate the outcomes a student has achieved and the
areas in which they have advanced in order to assess their talent and offer them
individualized guidance and support to suit their needs.
● Participation- Student engagement enables them to believe they are responsible
for their own learning and that they will get a lot of knowledge from this individual
learning.
