WHAT IS RECYCLING?
• According to Barrientos (2010), he defines recycling as: "A mechanical physicochemical work
process, which consists of submitting a material or a product already used (garbage), to a total and
partial treatment cycle to obtain a raw material of a new product”

2 OMAR
• Another author like Sedesol (1993) defined Recycling as separating or extracting materials from
the waste stream and conditioning them for sale so that they can be used as raw materials instead
of virgin materials.

3 DENI
• According to Ecoembes, an organization dedicated to caring for the environment through
recycling and eco-design of packaging in Spain, recycling is “a process in which used or discarded
waste is transformed into new raw materials ready to be used again. ”

4 MAGY
• Recycling is an eco-friendly practice that consists of subjecting rubbish or useless thing to a
transformation process in order to take advantage of it as a resource that allows us to re-introduce
it into the life cycle without having to resort to the use of new natural resources.

5 OMAR
• In turn, recycling is a green way to end a good part of human waste. Recycling allows materials
to be used repeatedly to make new products, which means the reduction of future rubbish, while
reducing the use of raw materials and saving the energy, time and money that would be necessary
for their extraction and/or or obtaining it through different manufacturing processes.

6 DENI
• According to Ferrer (2001), Recycle "It’s the action of re-introducing the production and
consumption of material products obtained from waste"

RECYCLING CHARACTERISTICS
Recycling requires four elements, according to López (2011):

• To Harvest.
• Selection of raw materials.
• Recovery of raw material to manufacture the product.
• Market and customers who buy the product
Recycling includes countless products that can be refused.

WHY RECYCLE?
• Although human beings are responsible for generating large amounts of waste

• According to INEGI (2019), in Mexico, during 2018, an average of 107,056 tons of garbage were
collected daily, I mean, 854 grams per person and are generated mainly in homes, buildings,
streets, avenues, parks, and gardens.

• In 2018, 65.1% of large companies sent their waste to dumps, 29.4% transferred them to service
companies for waste management and transportation, and 5.5% recycled or reused them in the
production process.

• In 2020, 106,523,139 kg of solid urban rubbish were collected daily. In 2018 the figure was
107,055,547 kg.

• 8% of the municipalities in the country don’t have a refuse collection service. In these
municipalities, the main practice carried out by the population to dispose of waste is to deposit it
in an open dump.

• More than half of the rubbish generated throughout the country is collected in seven federal
entities.
9 DENI
 Recycling is also an example of social responsibility and environmental protection.

• It’s one of the simplest and most significant daily activities that we can carry out. So that any
member of society can participate.

• In the country there are places called collection centers operated by municipalities or territorial
demarcations to receive all kinds of materials to be separated, classified or treated for reuse.

The following table shows the type of material and the amount separated in 2018.

 There are 501 collection centers that collect various materials daily, of which 65% are
paper, cardboard, electrical and electronic, glass and PET.
• This is a worrying issue for anyone, this action is part of responsible consumption and will allow
new generations to enjoy the green and blue planet.

10 MAGY
• Based on the INEGI research (2019), of the large manufacturing economic units, 19.6% declared
using recycled material as raw materials, 25.4% as packaging and packaging materials, and 1.1% in
other recycled materials used in the production process.

 Of the large economic units of the commerce sector that declared to separate waste and
waste, 94% separated paper and cardboard waste and waste, 80.1% plastic waste and
waste, 43% metal waste and waste and 40% declared to separate waste and scrap glass

HOW TO RECICLE?
Undoubtedly, it is one of the global objectives to curb pollution and climate change, two problems
that greatly affect the planet. Therefore, it’s essential that we promote this action at home.

According to the page of the Mexican government (2021) it shares some suggestions such as:

• Buy consciously. Make a list of what you really need, in this way you will avoid
buying unnecessary things and save money.
• Install specific containers where you can divide the garbage: organic, glass,
cardboard, plastic and toxic waste.
• Correctly separates the waste and indicates to the garbage collector how it is
classified.
• Wash containers and cans before throwing them away to avoid toxic spills in the
water.

12 DENI
You reduce the amount of garbage, save money and take care of the environment. If you are one
of those who like to give new life to objects, carry out the following ideas:

• Use glass bottles to store seeds, cereals, legumes or grains. Also as vases or jugs
for water.
• The clothes that you no longer use could be used to make a blanket, a bed or a toy
for your pet. Turn denim pants into incredible bags.
• Aluminum cans can be turned into pots, pencil holders or to place cutlery. Paint
them and let your imagination fly!
• The sheets that are left over from the notebooks, join them and form a new one.

It’s important that whatever you decide to reuse, you clean it very well to remove residues and
odors.

It’s essential to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and reusing, in doing so the
benefits would be infinite both for the planet and for the human species.

RECYCLING IN THE TEACHING OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

• Recycling is a process where rubbish is collected and transformed into new materials
that can be used or sold as new products or prime components, from there the
importance of analyzing recycling as a pedagogical strategy in the teaching of
environmental education.

14 OMAR

Interest in recycling
• Interest in recycling can be defined according to Trellez (1995) as "The understanding of
the impact of human beings on the environment"
• In other words, understand how daily actions influence the environment and how this
affects the future of our space.

15 DENI

Environmental education
• It’s the formation of a man capable of understanding the environment and the
interaction of its natural and socio-cultural elements, in the same way, it allows him to be
critical, giving opinions to adopt norms in accordance with his judgments.
• González (2005) states that environmental education: "It is understood as carrying out a
set of activities integrated into a systematic and permanent process, developed through
multiple means, aimed at promoting behavior changes in all sectors of the population ,
which show the adoption of new values oriented towards the conservation, defense and
improvement of the environment whose ultimate goal is to constantly improve the living
conditions of current and future generations”.
• In other words, environmental education is the orientation aimed at human beings to
teach the benefits of improving the environment, based on future generations.

16 OMAR

Recycling in Education
• Pereira (2003), argues that "the teacher must live the learning process with the children
themselves, prepare activities carefully based on the interests and present needs for him
also use different resources and instruments for learning to be effective."
• This means that the teacher, as an important element, must facilitate learning
experiences in boys and girls.
• He is the one who promotes a safe, positive and pleasant climate, respecting and valuing
his individuality through each process.
• Thus, taking the current situation, the teacher must integrate recycling as an
environmental awareness in the classroom, this being a learning process for the students
and a practice in their daily life.

THE OCEAN CLEAN UP

• There is an organization that aims to clean 90% of the oceans by collecting all the
garbage found in them.
 This is being achieved with their "SYSTEM 002" since they have removed more than 100
thousand kg of plastic garbage from the ocean
 With its new technology "SYSTEM 003" allows to collect even more plastics, they hope to
be able to clean with the help of this technology the Pacific island that contains more than
100 million kg of plastic
 Also, this organization helps to clean the dirtiest rivers with the help of the 004
interceptors where its objective is to clean the thousand most polluted rivers in the world,
this technology uses solar energy and they have managed to clean more than a million kg
of plastic garbage in addition that they have a system of intercepting barriers.
