Process Paper

“The Civil Frontier” wasn’t as challenging of a topic as I thought it would be to be

perfectly honest. Every time I learned about the Civil War, I would always learn the same

concepts of what happened. I wanted this topic to see how much I could learn more about the

Civil War. I wanted to learn about the experiences the African American men and women had

faced during the war and how it paved the way for the laws that gave them the rights they have

today.

Learning how to use EBSCOhost, I was able to find that the site was a good resource to

find more information about my topic than I've learned in school. I came across sources that

talked about books made about the war, interviews with some of the soldiers from the war,

documents, and even a case record that was connected to the Civil War. I also learned about

scenarios and events that had a play into how the War came to be in the first place instead of just

conflict between the North and the South. I can consider EBSCOhost my most valuable website

for information about the topic but there were some other websites I found that helped me

continue following the path I was going for.

For my presentation decision, I decided to go with a Website to show the information I

found on my project in a different way than I’ve done a research project before. I got to use my

knowledge of computers and a few of my writing skills to try and explain the way I perceived the

information in a different way others could understand. I decided to split my website into 5

different sections and they are home, thesis, history, war experience, and impact. Home would be

would just be a small example of what the main project is about. The thesis page is about my

ideas on why I believe the Civil War was an example of a frontier in history. My history page
would go over the research I found that lead to the Civil War. War experience would go over the

experiences of the African American men and women who had a part in the war. And the impact

would go over what came after the war.

For black soldiers, the Civil War represented a significant opportunity to prove their valor

and patriotism and to fight for their own freedom and rights. Despite facing discrimination and

unequal treatment within the army, black soldiers played a vital role in the Union's ultimate

victory. Despite these challenges, the experience of serving as a black soldier during the Civil

War was a transformative one for many African Americans. It allowed them to prove their worth

and to fight for their own freedom and rights, and it paved the way for further progress in the

ongoing struggle for racial equality in the United States.
