Irrigation Water MSc Degree in Water Resources Engineering, Irrigation and Drainage
Management Engineering, Hydrology and Water Resources, Agricultural engineering,
Soil and Water Conservation, or other closely related disciplines. MSc
CGPA of 3.2 and above.
Surface Water BSc degree in Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydraulic
Management Engineering, Hydrology and Water Resources, Meteorology, Hydraulic
Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, or other closely related disciplines.
BSc CGPA of 2.5 and above. The applicants must also pass the entrance
examination administered by the host Institute.

Water and Public MSc in Environmental Health or Public Health, Water and Public Health,
Health Biology, Environmental Sciences, or other related fields from a
recognized Institution. MSc CGPA of 3.25 and above and minimum MSc
thesis grade of Good.
Admission requirements for the MSc program in Water and Health (WaHe)
Specialization Requirements
Water and Public BSc degree in Environmental Health, Environmental and Occupational
Health Health, Public Health, Biology, Chemistry, or its equivalent The applicants
must also pass the entrance examination administered by the host
Institute. On conditional admission, a candidate may be required to take
appropriate undergraduate bridging courses. BSc CGPA of 2.5 and above.
• Master degree in public health with thesis or those without thesis must
have two publications in peer-reviewed journals;
• Fulfilling AAU graduate admission requirements;
• Sponsorship from public universities/research institutions;
• Submission of a doctoral study plan prepared by the prospective candidate;
• Subject to admission interview for evaluating the candidates' academic
potential, work experience, and attitudinal preparation to pursue a
postgraduate program at the doctoral level.

Admission requirements to regular and evening graduate programs ( MA/MSc/PhD) for
the 2022/23 academic year
The College of Development Studies of AAU is reorganized under six centres running MA and
PhD programs. With its relatively well-organized and qualified faculty having multidisciplinary
academic backgrounds and work experiences. Currently, the CoDS offers five (5) PhD and ten
(10) Master’s Programs. The requirements for admission to each of the respective programs are
highlighted below:
• PhD in Food Security and • MA/MSc in development studies, food security, food
Development and nutrition, disaster risk management, geography
and environmental studies, natural resource
management, food science, rural development and
livelihoods, regional and local development studies,
economics, agriculture economics and other relevant
field of study
• Preparation, submission and presentation of a concise
concept note pertaining to the field of study
• Experiences on publications (articles, reports and
manuscripts etc)
• Pass mark for the program entrance exam, assessment
of CGPS and records of the applicant
• PhD in Urban, Regional and Local • MA/ MSc Degree in Urban studies such as Urban
Development planning, Urban Land, Urban Management; Urban
and Regional planning; Architecture and Urban
Design; Regional and Local Development Studies;
Geography & Environmental Studies, Sociology and
Social Work; Urban Economics with a strong MA/
MSc thesis; or with a commendable research
experience after graduation with MA/MSc
