Q.2 (i) Can a body be simultaneously at rest and in motion? Explain.


(ii) What is the justification of transverse nature of electromagnetic waves? Support your answer with valid arguments.
(iii) In SHM, the time taken by a body from the mean position to A/2 is not the same as that from A/2 to A, where A is the
amplitude of motion. Why?
(iv) Find the angle between 𝐴⃗and 𝐵 ⃗⃗if 𝐴⃗. 𝐵
⃗⃗ = 86.6% 𝑜𝑓|𝐴⃗x𝐵
⃗⃗|, Is it possible that at certain angle scalar and vector product
of these two vectors becomes equal?
(v) How does a net force is related with the rate of change of linear momentum? Calculate the following also
(a) Net force on a body if linear momentum changes by 2kgm/s in 0.25second.
(b) Change of linear momentum for a body, if 5N unbalance force acts on a body for 5 seconds.

(vi)Discuss with the help of examples how moment of inertia is related to angular velocity of a body, if angular momentum of the
body remains conserved.
(vii) Calculate the angular velocity for a wall clock's second, minute, and hour hand in revolutions per minute (rpm). Also, write down
the reason that, for each hand, why the average angular velocity is always equal to its respective instantaneous angular velocity.
(viii) A uniform ladder of length “l” and weight W = 50 N rests against a smooth vertical wall. Find the coefficient of friction between
the ladder and the ground if the minimum angle ladder makes with the ground is 51.3 0.
(ix) Relative to the origin O, the position vector of two points P and Q are given by

NOTE: Attempt any Two questions from this section. Draw diagrams where necessary.

Q3) a. Name the simplest vibratory motion about a fixed point, write down its characteristics and
mathematical expression for one of its example.
b. Explain the free motion of a body under gravity in a parabolic path. What are the assumptions to make
the study of this motion simple? Derive mathematical expressions for horizontal and vertical maximum
range.

Q4) a. How does the gravitational acceleration vary with respect to depth below earth’s surface? Derive a
formula for variation of gravitational acceleration with depth. Also prove that the value of gravitational
acceleration is zero at the earth's center.

b. How Newton’s rings are formed, explain? Also derive formula for Nth bright and dark rings.

Q5) a. What is relative motion? How relative movement between the source of sound and listener causes the
difference in pitch of the sound. Derive the formula for apparent frequency in terms of proper
frequency for the following cases.
(i)Source of sound is moving toward the stationary listener
(ii)Listener is moving away from the stationary source of sound
b. Define visual angle and least distance of distinct vision. How can a convex lens be used as a magnifying glass?
Derive the formula for its angular magnification.
