Maple syrup was created by Indigenous peoples in North America, long before the

arrival of European settlers. They would make incisions in the bark of maple trees
in early spring, collect the sap that flowed out, and boil it down into a sweet,
concentrated syrup. This syrup was used as a food and a medicine, and was an
important part of Indigenous culture and traditions. Later, European settlers
adopted this practice and developed new techniques for processing and refining
maple syrup. Today, maple syrup remains a popular and beloved sweetener, enjoyed
around the world for its unique flavor and rich history.
