I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson the learner are expected to:

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction What I need to know?
 The learner recognize the instruments used by the performers.
 The learner distinguish chance from electronic music. .

What’s new?
 John Cage was known as one of the 20th century composers with
the broadest array of sounds in his works.
Development What I know?
 The learner will be asked to answer the 10 item multiple type pre-
test about Chance music.
 After answering the questions, the learner may check and compare
their answer using the answer key provided in the module.

What’s in?
 The teacher will let the learners watch Water Walk by John Cage
who was one of the compositions used in TV show during the 20th
century.

 The teacher will ask the following questions:
a. What characteristics of Chance music can be deduced from the
video clip?
b. Aside from the objects used in the video, what other objects
can you use to create sounds which are similar to the piece?

What is it?
 Let the students describe chance music after watching the video.
c. Engagement What’s more?

Role playing:

Ask volunteers to act as performers/singers, camera man, crews.

Have them create a short performance like singing or dancing.


Ask each volunteer to play their role in producing a simple output that
portrays musical style in the 20th century.

What I can do?


The teacher will ask the following questions:
 How each performer performs, and how other casts play their roles?
 How they utilized the media in creating a simple performance?
 What are the media used in producing the performance?

What other enrichment activities can I engage in? (Additional Activities)


Activity:
Hold a “Chance Musical Experience”.
 Ask the students to simulate a performance concert sitting in front
of an instrument like keyboard, just holding a guitar or any other
musical instruments in 3 minutes without playing these.

 Discuss the performance and get the reactions and observations


from the class such as what they hear, see, feel, touch, or smell.

 The teacher will emphasize that the music that are being produced
are called “Chance Music
d. Assimilation What I have learned?
 Ask the students to differentiate between Electronic and chance
Music through Venn Diagram. Cite some characteristics of each
musical style to distinguish their differences.

What I can do?
 Learner will be asked to answer a 5-item multiple type of
assessment. It will cover the distinctive elements of Chance music
as a 20th century music style.
 After answering the questions, the learner may check and compare
their answer using the answer key.
 As performance output, the learners may create or record a simple
composition following the style of chance music
 Rubrics will be provided by the teacher to guide the learners in
making their compositions.
 The performance output maybe done at home and to be submitted
next meeting.
