Answers Assignment #7 – Cone

Directions: Solve the following problems. Write your solutions neatly and legibly in
short bond papers. For Problem #’s 6-15, draw the concerned figures as part of your
solution with corresponding proper notations/symbols of the given and required
quantities/variables. Simplify all answers and write them with correct units. Avoid
erasures. (10 points each)
NOTE: We may have different notations for the required quantities but that’s okay.

meter deep?

10,000 1𝐿
𝑉=( 𝑐𝑚3 ) ( )

2. Find the volume and the lateral area of a cone of revolution with radius 3 in. and altitude
4 in.

3. Find the radius of a cone of revolution of slant height 6 in. in which the total area is twice
the lateral area.

4. The area of a base of a cone is two-thirds the area of a base of a cylinder and their volumes
are equal. Compare their altitudes.

𝒉𝟐 𝟐
Final Answer: The cone is four and one-half times as high as the cylinder.

7. A circular sector has a radius of 20 in. and an angle of 120°. If this sector is cut out of
paper and rolled so as to form the lateral surface of a right circular cone, find the total
area and volume of the cone.

8. A block of wood is in the form of a right circular cone. The altitude is 12 cm and the radius
of the base is 5 cm. A cylindrical hole 5 cm in diameter is bored completely through the
solid, the axis of the hole coinciding with the axis of the cone. Find the amount of wood
left after the hole is bored.
