D. LESSON PROPER
Arithmetic Sequence are sequences of number that progress from one term
to another by adding or subtracting a constant value (or also known as the
common difference).
To illustrate:
where:
a n = the nth term
Examples:
1. Find the 7th term of an arithmetic sequence given the first 3 terms 2,6,10.
d=4
n=7
a7 = ?
Solution:
a n=a1 + ( n−1 ) d
a 7 = 2 + (7 – 1) (4)
a 7 = 2 + (6) (4)
a 7 = 26
2. Find the 10th term of an arithmetic sequence given the first 4 terms 10, 19,
28, 37.
d=9
n = 10
a 10 = ?
Solution:
a n=a1 + ( n−1 ) d
a 10 = 10 + (10 – 1) (9)
a 10 = 10 + (9) (9)
a 10 = 10 + 81
a 10 = 91
d=2
n = 50
a7 = ?
Solution:
a n=a1 + ( n−1 ) d
a 50 = 1 + (50 – 1)2
a 50 = 1 + (49) (2)
a 50 = 1 + 98
a 50 = 99
V. ENGAGEMENT
I. WHAT DO WE HAVE IN COMMON?
(materials need: matchsticks)
1. Form squares using matchsticks.
2. Count the number of matchsticks in each square and record your observation as
No. of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
squares
No. of 4 7 10 13 16 19 22 25 28

VI. GENERALIZATION
An arithmetic sequence is a type of sequence where a common difference between
two consecutive terms exists.
To find the nth term of a sequence, use the general rule:
a n=a1 + ( n−1 ) d
ANSWER:
1. D
2. B
3. C
4. ASSIGNMENT
Research on examples of applications of arithmetic sequence in real-life setting.
Paste the examples on a piece of paper. Elaborately explain why such examples
belongs to specifically to an arithmetic sequence.
