1. Measure axial and radial readings at the generator coupling by rotating the uncoupled shaft-generator-turbine shaft using an overhead crane and taking readings at 0, 90, 180, and 360 degrees.
2. Correct any differences between the axial and radial readings by adding or removing shims below the generator to adjust the radial readings, and by shifting the generator's position left or right to adjust the axial readings.
3. Use a multiplication factor calculated from the length and diameter measurements to determine the necessary correction value for adjusting any differences in the axial readings.

Alignment of “Shaft” Generator-LP Turbine: (Uncoupled)
1. Consider LP Turbine rotor as master
2. Install dial gauges at coupling of Generator-LP Turbine 3. Install stopper to avoid movement of the rotor axially 4. Shaft rotation: as Turbine-Generator shaft is not ready for rotation by hand, use EOT crane for shaft rotation. Insert a steel pin thorough Generator shaft coupling. A cable(sling) is looped around one end of the pin (to ride in a groove, for safety’s sake) and attached to the EOT crane’s hook to rotate the shaft. Risk: 1. Sling may be slip off the pin and whip around 2. Breakage of sling 3. Incompetent personnel (Riggers & EOT Operators) 4. Sudden breakdown of EOT Crane 5. Personnel injury due to hitting of the released sling. 5. Activity: Measuring of Axial and Radial readings at the Generator coupling a. Rotate the shaft with the help of sling attached to the EOT crane. b. Markings to be done as 0°, 90, 180° and 360° or 0°. c. Two sets of readings to be taken. d. Install dial gauges at two positions for Axial readings and One position (Top) for radial readings. e. One set contains Two Axial readings at all Four positions of the Generator coupling.

4.0 3.75
Radial readings – R
6. Correction of Axial and Radial readings
a. For Radial reading correction (top-bottom) we need to do inserting or removing of shims (thin metallic plates) below the Generator (front or rear) to achieve desired Radial reading. Keep manufacturer’s design value as reference and follow sequence to achieve the same. b. For Axial reading correction (left-right) we need to shift the Generator’s position (left- right). If (ex: 4.25-3.0=1.25 mm) 1.25mm is open value {under development} c. Multiplication factor for finding the correction value for Axial readings need to calculate from the below formula. Multiplication factor = Length (Journal-Coupling)/Coupling Dia. = L/D Ex: 10000mm/870mm = 11.49 is the multiplication factor
