A). In one and a half pages write an analytical essay on what should be done to
make Uganda Martyrs University a better place.
Uganda Martyrs University is a private university established in 1993. Its main branch
is located in Nkozi, with other branches like Rubaga, Masaka, and many others.
However, like many other institutions, UMU has challenges that have impacted its
academic performance and overall reputation. In this essay, I will analyze the various
issues affecting Uganda Martyrs University and provide recommendations on what can
be done to make UMU a better place.
One of the challenges facing UMU is the delay in issuing student identity cards.
Student identity cards are essential documents that serve as proof of identification
and enrollment in the university. They are necessary for accessing various university
services for example the library, computer labs, and sports facilities. This greatly
undermines the credibility of the university whereby it creates a perception that it is
inefficient and disorganized, affecting its reputation and ability to attract new
students. Uganda Martyrs University should invest in an efficient and streamlined
process for issuing ID cards and this can include setting up online application
processes and providing sufficient resources for staff hence making UMU a better
place.
Another challenge affecting UMU is the issue of students’ missing marks which should
be rectified to make Uganda Martyrs University a better place. This always creates
confusion and anxiety among students who may not know how well they are doing in
their studies, leading to academic retakes and stress.
UMU should ensure that students have access to mental health services, counseling,
and support. This is especially important given the rising mental health concerns
among students and by providing access to such resources, students are well-equipped
to handle the academic and personal challenges that they may face.
It should foster a culture of diversity and inclusivity where individuals from different
backgrounds can engage in open and honest discussions without fear of judgment or
discrimination. This can be done by providing resources to support minority students,
such as scholarships and mentoring programs.
Uganda Martyrs University should ensure regular maintenance and repairs of the
computer laboratory equipment to ensure that they function correctly otherwise all
the computers in the computer laboratory have technical issues such as
malfunctioning computers and network connectivity problems.
Finally, UMU should focus on improving the quality of student life on campus. The
university can provide recreational facilities such as sports fields, gyms, and
swimming pools to promote physical activity and mental well-being among students.
Doing so creates a conducive learning environment such as providing comfortable and
well-equipped study areas.
In conclusion, UMU has the potential to become a leading institution of higher
learning in Uganda and beyond. However, to achieve this goal, it needs to address the
above challenges facing it. By doing so, UMU can create a conducive environment for
quality education and become a better place for students and staff.
